Q:

Steady drop in FPS

I just got my new Caldwell Chronograph today and was trying it out with my AirForce Talon SS. I started with a fill pressure of 2400 PSI and the power wheel set at 5. The first couple of shots were at about 740 FPS. Then each following shot dropped by about 3-4 FPS. I stopped when the gun’s air gauge showed 1600 PSI and the chrony show showed about 680 FPS. The total number of shots was between 40 & 45.

This is the first time I’ve fiddled with a chrony; is this kind of steady FPS normal? The gun is about 4 months old and has about 3,000 rounds through it. There have been no performance mods made to the gun.

hello,

I think you might be past the “sweet spot”.
Instead of getting the ascending / discending curve, you are already on the descending part.

Maybe you nedd to fill at a higher pressure or change the power settings.
Now that you have a chrony you can find the good settings.

Otherwise, yes, the trend is to slowly get less fps with every shot since your tank, I assume, is unregulated.

Cheers
Chris
