Stripped breech cocking knob fix.

I had a badly stripped out breech cocking knob, so i ordered some brass threaded inserts, Fastenal part #0123217. Shown next to a .25 Kodiak.

I had too spin it on my cocking knob to hold it, and grind the first ridge off the bottom off the insert so it would not be too close to the inner wall of the breech. I then used a 1/4″ drill bit, and carefully drilled the hole out, being careful not to drill to deep, it cut like butter, almost self feeding, be careful. I squared it up with a level across the flat of the trigger catch, in the vise, and made sure too hold the drill straight up and down, a drill press would be easier. After making sure the hole was deep enough, i pressed the insert in using the vise, then filed the brass that was just a hair high off. Looked great. 😀

It was then necessary to use a different hex bolt instead of the cocking knob so i could get ahold of it, and run it into the insert to force the ridge into the delrin, if not you’ll have to take the breech back out when you find the knob won’t go in without being able to realy turn it with some force, like i did. 😳 It did not seem to deform the delrin that i could tell, so i cleaned, lubed, and reinstalled all the parts. The knob is definitely stout now, much stronger than before just tapped into the soft delrin. 😀 Three shots over the chrony at 920 fps told me everything was good so far, and i’m back in business after two weeks broke down. 😀 😀 😀 40 cent fix. 😉
