Stuck Brass bolt

I got the HF Air Compressor and was trying to install the automatic drain kit which requires the manual drain plug removing.

I put on the correct metric socket and was using a long handle so what I thought was just resistance was actually the brass bolt being rounded off.

I have an extractor set, but am worried that it will just destroy the nut even more with it being so soft.

I have considered tapping with a left hand thread and screwing a steel bolt into the center with some epoxy and trying that with a little bit of heat – any worries with that method?

Any other tips?

I have used a small pipe wrench before, as long as you can get it on the head. (next time option)

Darn – should have got that 4 jaw 😆

I did manage to get it out via heat gun and locking plier’s which slipped until I locked them using another pair of locking pliers to get some more grip 😳

Got the auto drain installed, worked fine for 2 cycles and then locked open when compressor wasnt running, but would close when it was. I’d read a review saying that happened to the reviewer and it was a mangled o-ring – which it was in my case too. Replaced that and it works great.

YN, just chuck the compressor into your lathe and bore out the bolt, then chase the threads with a tap.
