Q:

Super Soaker in the house!

I’ve waited long enough and decided it was time to pull the trigger on the FX Impact. The reason I waited was for FX to make any changes needed. I think I have the latest model because the fill probe is not that hard to detach. I haven’t shot it much but given that everything works as it should, I am very impress with this gun and I might add that it is probably my favorite from all the bullpups I’ve had. I know everyone’s needs are different, this just fulfills much of mine. I bought it from Penchetta last week and everything went very smooth. Day after I ordered, I received shipping confirmation. There was no accuracy testing but who cares bout that, most are done within 25 yds and any of these top pcps can do hole in one all day. They did however shot 3 mags to check for any air leaks.

The .22 came with the retractible shroud. Not my preference but will be working on a shroud this weekend to attach my fatboy. First impressions, it feels very solid and well made like the Edgun Leshiy. The slimness of the gun makes it very easy to handle and the AR grip fits my hand better than the Mutant, Vulcan or Matador. I recently purchased an authenic Atlas bipod and I have to say it is so much better than the Chinese version. Expensive yes but well worth it. With the Bipod and adjustable butt plate, it made it a lot easier to align the scope.

My gun came set at 120 bars, shooting 720 on Min and 860 on max. Perfect for my backyard shooting. The shroud is hollow and when I shot it, I heard a metallic noise. I asked Ernest about it and he said to adjust the VS until you hear bumpfff instead of the twang. Good to know that I can get rid of it. Because there’s nothing in the shroud, I could see a little muzzle blast. Not a problem because I know I can get rid of that with the fatboy or 1.5 OD lDC. More to come later 🙂

Looks good “D”.

well ok i missed that… screw on shroud good choice!

I gave the melamine a try tonight, but to my ear, didn’t hear any difference. I must be doing something wrong?

Renval, I finally had time to make an aluminum shroud last night. Tested this morning and damn is it quiet on my .22. I made a one piece set instead of having a 1/2 x 20 adapter at the end. I left a big hole so that more air can travel back into the shroud. It screws on instead of being held by grub screws. The LDC is about 8 inches long with only one washer in the rear to push the air back. The rest of the LDC is metal mesh tube wrapped with melamine foam also known as Mr Clean Magic eraser. One of my client said that he replaced my felt inside fatboy with it and it reduced the sound even more. Ernest and I tried it and it did so that’s what is inside of this one.

Congrats Donny! You will have a lot of fun with the Impact, this gun puts a smile on my face every time I shoot it, just let us know once you make something to quiet it down, my .30 is louuuuddd!

Donny the shroud looks great! I’m glad you went with the screw in option, are you thinking on making this puppies for .25 and .30cal!

Yes the more the better. I was lucky to have one laying around under the sink lol. If you could some how make a tube the size of bic pen, with holes drilled into it, that’ll be a good size. Or you can get hardware cloth and roll it around a pen or pencil to get a round tube. Then wrap that with the foam. the hard part will be to align the hole.

Ah yes, I hadn’t thought about the eraser blowing into pieces from the air pressure.

Do you have any idea why melamine would work better than the felt?
Is it a case of “The more, the better”, meaning (within reason) the more melamine I can put in the LDC the better?

Warning: I’m about to have a HOOT moment here….(hope it’s Okay HOOT, being that I don’t know you very well 😉 ).

[dream sequence/ON]

HOOT’s SO: “Honey, the kids drew on the wall with Crayons again”.

HOOT: “Use a Magic Eraser to wipe it off”.

HOOT’s SO: “Honey, you used all of them on whatever nonsense you were doing in the garage”.

HOOT: “Okay…let me get the gun”.

Shroud looks awesome Donny. Much nicer looking than the original. Enjoy your new Impact it is one sweet looking gun.

Hi Zoey, the foam is wrapped around my metal perforated tubes. I cut the magic eraser to the same width as the tube then wrap it around. The eraser is about an inch thick but as you know easily compressed like sponge. When I put it in the LDC, I have to wrap it really tight to fit the hole then it expands once I let go inside. If I had cut washers out of them like the felt. I don’t think they would be able to handle the constant direct blast. It would break into bits. I haven’t noticed any breakage with the wrapping.

quote Zoey:

Nice work! Is the melamine actually wrapped in such a way that the foam is crushed, or is it just cut in the same shape as the felt doughnuts?

Wow, that looks so cool

Is that what those hand grips are for hahahahahhaha. I don’t normally carry my gun by the end like that but now that you pointed it out. Mine is pretty close to the color of the gun. It is basically one big rubber piece with a long slot to be able to adjust up and down. At the top if you wiggle it around I can see why you say it is loose. It has no real support up there since the the rubber piece is held by the thumb screw in the middle of the grip. I can see an aftermarket all metal one being made for this. But since I don’t carry my gun around like this, not a big deal to me.

quote Cricket:

Whats your opinion on the buttpad? I know when I inspected it and held the gun that way using it as a handle I was rather dissapointed. Not the same color as the gun and very sloppy/loose.

I always made shrouds however, I do try to convince people to stick to OEM shrouds but with an added 1/2 x 20 adapter at the end. OEM shrouds are usually screwed on rather than being held by set screws. This will ensure accuracy and consistency. With the impact, I can make a screw on shroud.

I hear you about the Atlas, got one a month ago and was blown away! :8:

So are you working on shrouds now too? Not just LDC’s but gun specific shrouds?

I’m not going into detail on the Impact, No FX for me thank you very much 😉
