Surefire slugs + choked barrel= ?
Is there any data about what happens when you use Surefire slugs with a choked LW barrel?

RC never had slugs that had not been damaged and he’s a do it yourself guy so he cast his own slugs and did extraordinarily well with them in .257. Knife shot tiny groups with a stock barrel (18″ I seem to recall). Tofazfou shot good groups and even better ones after cutting off the choke.
The slugs were designed for those not willing to cut off the choke. Naturally, a proper barrel that does not require sizing a slug at 1000 fps will be better! The slugs do just fine in proper barrels but some want to keep their gun as a pellet shooter as well and they can shoot slugs when they want.
But didn’t RC cut the choke of and got better results or did I mix something up?
ON_THE_EDGE has it right; the slugs were designed for the LW barrels. Knife proved they can work extremely well…if you can shoot like he can!
They worked Very Well in my .25 L/W Bbl. 😉

It is my understanding that they were designed to be used in LW barrels, however you are going to need at least a high flow valve and it would be best if you had a 24 inch barrel.

My favorite bullet is the 257420 by LYMAN. BUt remember though, between ME, Doug, RJ and RC all our guns were different to some degree
I have a 1-14 twist which workds best with the lighter 257420 at 70+ grs. It did well with the NOE 80 gr to but boy do they drop compared to the Lymans. The NOE has much more bearing surface. The 88 gr SPITZERS that RJ cast are extraordinary in accuracy. But they are a SHARP POINTED spizer with no oomph at impact. But if you head shoot game then who cares. The bullets I used from RJ though that you are referring to were the IDEAL 100 gr Spitzers which are different than the 88 grs. The 88gr by RJ are much more accurate and suite my twist much better than the HEAVIER 100+ gr bullets. Again though, RC’s HOCH 109 gr bullets were damned accurate too and had a big ole meplate. They were flat based too
