Take a look at this valve stem…
After realizing the top hat was out way to far yesterday, I turned it in, and went to tighten it back down, and then realized I tightened to far, putting dimples in the ID of the valve stem, because I never felt the grub screws ‘Botttom out’ against the valve stem. Maybe this is why. There is almost no wall left on the stem where the grub screws tightened up against, going in to far and making dimples in the ID of the stem. I tried to bring the top hat out a little just now, and it won’t turn, even after taking grub screws completly out. If I force it to turn, the whole valve stem turns with it, it’s like one piece now. I can’t believe how far off center the ID is.

That’s awesome, haven’t had business dealings with Tim but if I ever need anything he sells, I would definitely get it from him with that kind of attitude! 😀
Well, since I bought the tank from Tim at Mac 1, I gave him a call, and then paid him a visit. At first he said he would just send it back to AF for repairs. I get down there, and show it to him. He looks at it up close, and then says something like… “Oh…. geeez.. that’s no good.”
As he continued to peer at it, I was looking at another apparently new Condor tank sitting on the table. He goes, “I tell you what, just take the new one you’re looking at and I’ll send this bad one back.” 😛 😛 😛
This new one, at least from the outside, looked perfect in every way. Now that was worth the drive! Thanks Tim!
Forget those grub screws. Just get the top hat where you want it and lock it down with Red locktite, fingernail polish, epoxy, jb weld what ever you have and forget about it.
Once set you will not have to move it again. Just take those screw out once and for all.

I’d probably put in a call to AF on that one. Even not buying it new, that clearly is a manufacturing issue. Maybe they’ll just send you a new stem.

Yes, Tim knows his stuff, he’s been doing it for years, but he really doesn’t do much work on AF guns. For the most part, if a customer has problems with a AF gun he’s sold them, he’ll just send it out to AF to have it looked at/repaired. I think he will still do a ‘tune up’ of sorts on AF guns at the customers request, but that’s about it. No real serious custom work like he does on so many other types of guns.
