Q:

talon .177 questions

I have some questions here i need some answers to from the guys or gals that can help me. I have been thinking about getting a talon ss in .177 caliber and picking up a 12″ .22 barrel for it as well to keep it quiet. I already have a .25 condor so the talon will be used for plinking and small game hunting up to the size of ground squirrels. So i want high shot count from the .17 and the .22 barrel will be what my wife shoots when we go after ground squirrels. On to the questions.

1: What can i expect for shot count with the .17 at 800fps -900 fps? And can i get up to 900 fps using jsb exact heavies at 10.3 gr.?

2: I have an extra spin loc tank from my .25 that i dont use so if i use that with the 12″ .22 barrel what can i expect for velocity using jsb exact jumbo heavies at 18gr.? Or does the talon .22 ship with the high flow tank that is also used on the .25 condor?

I know a .22 cal shooting crosman 14.3 gr. pellets @ 800 fps will kill a ground squirrel out to at least 35 yds with head shots but at that range or a little farther they can make it back to the holes with a body shot. So i would like to get the .22 closer to 900 fps with the 18gr. pellets for the ground squirrels is that possible with the .25 condor tank using the 12″ barrel? Thanks in advance for any info.

I ended up putting a reg from Altaros on my .177 Talon. I’ve also got a restrictive valve spring retainer from Tony in it. Reg set to the lowest setting, I’m getting 870fps out of 8gr pellets for a yet to be determined number of shots. I know it just sips air at that level. Filled to 3kpsi last weekend and shot quite a bit. Still just a RCH under 3kpsi now.

It seems that with the info i have been able to find about the .22 talon is if you use the high flow valve to raise the fps with the 12″ barrel you get allot of wasted air. So it seems i need to use the 18″ .22 barrel if i want 900 fps. Without wasted air. The problem with that scenario is i want the smaller lighter talon for my wife but to still have it silenced with out buying anything extra to keep it quiet. So the question is will the .177 talon handle ground squirrel size pests out to 50 yds? I have only used .177 pellet guns for small bird pesting to 30-35 yds. Or do i need a condor ss in .22 for the added punch while still retaining the sound loc system? I have done some searches but the limited topics that i do get seem to always dead end with no info givin from the user with end results. So i appologize if this has been answered before.

I dont plan on using the high flow tank on the .177 barrel just the .22.

I’m thinking with a hi flo tank you’re gonna be trying to keep it Down to 900fps with 18 grain.17 cals. I leave it to the guys on this forum with more experience with the 17. But I’m sure you can get that out of it. Pity the tree rat that stops on front of it.
