Talon Extreme modded further…
I had Jim Gaska mill up an LW barrel, 16″ in length, for my Talon Stubby Extreme. The 12″ shroud and five of the seven baffles fit just fine, and it is as quiet as I need it to be. I had to remove the R & L screw-on barrel bushing and replace it with a Talon vented bushing from Jim. There is a grub screw threaded hole at the end of the frame, as there is on all Talons, and I used that, with a hardware store grub screw, and it holds it straight and secure.
Now, at a power wheel setting of “10”, I am slinging 35.8gr Ein Jin’s at 950 fps, per my chrony. I can take it down to “8” and get 830 fps. I am fairly certain if I were to go to “12” I could break 1000 fps with the 35.8 Ein Jins, but why bother?
I’ve got my 10X Millet scope back on, and a bipod, because this is no longer a “Stubby”, but a heavy .25 caliber power shooter. That’s ok, since I have my .22 Bullpup for my light work.
Jim did a beautiful job on the new barrel’s crown and breech, all tapered and polished. Those Ein Jins fit really snug, but that didn’t seem to be a problem.
Next comes accuracy testing. I’ve got some JSB Kings, 25gr that I believe will turn in the best accuracy. We’ll see.

Was thinking about the short straight one… just to have a Foster fitting to fill from.
Just how do I get the Hoot discount on a Mad Dog stock? They’re $265 last time I checked on the R&L website. and that was the sale price! Harry’s got a good point, probably wouldn’t work with the E-TaC tilting the air tank down would it?
I would really like one of those R&L stocks, but the thing that keeps me from buying one comes down to a Foster fitting.. I would want to put an Etac on there just so I don’t have to unscrew the tank to fill it. I don’t even have an AirForce fill adapter any more. Do you think that would make it too long? 😕 😕
It’s a Maddog stock from R&L and you too can have one for the princely sum of $250.00!
I personally believe it is worth every cent.
Comfort is the key, and the Maddog meets the challenge. Designed for either lefties, or normal people, I can find no flaw in it’s design or “feel”.
Standing, or bench, I feel I have very good control of my Talon and if I didn’t know better, I would say it was custom fitted for me.
It’s NOT a light weight piece of wood. It has heft, but is solid as a rock. I believe it’s made from Maple…but I’m not sure.
It’s not right for everyone…but it fits my needs quite nicely.

Looks fine, mighty fine. That looks like one of those Mad Dog stocks Randy at R&L sells. Is it comfortable to shoot with that stock or can you not tell any major difference? It looks cool but if it doesn’t make much difference shooting I could pass on the stock for a while. I found one of those Morgan adjustable butt pads on an old winchester stock in the parts bin at the gun store next door that I am using right now. For free I can’t complain.

I had to stop and catch six bass and a 12lb channel cat this afternoon. But after cleaning all of that,and taking a shower, I remembered to size and pic the Talon.
38″ OAL, not too bad, not bad at all. Subssonic SS bolt, Wok fat trigger, Jim Gaska 16″ LW Polyhex rifled barrel, R & L Extreme valve, a 12″ R & L steel shroud, a Caldwell bi-pod, and a WallyWorld sling (much needed). A 10X fixed power Millet scope and Leopold Quick Detach rings, It all adds weight. 10.5 lbs to be exact.
I’ve got a tri-rail ordered. The scope, even with high rings, needs a bit more elevation for comfort.
I got it to crack 1050 fps with a 35.8gr Ein Jin. Thats 80.0 fpe! If I need more than that, I’ll use a firearm.
I’ll keep this rascal for my long range shooting. I’m thinking a head shot to an animal as large as a deer within 100 feet would drop it. Not that I would do such a thing! It will certainly take out its share of raccoon’s, possums, and armadillos.
You keep the faith….I’ll keep this Talon.

They look like a cup, without a handle, and with a small hole drilled in the bottom.
Very simple, remarkably effecient. Crosman uses them in the Matador. The key seems to be how many to use. I’m using five, but really need seven to calm my beast.

While any quality modifier would work, I used my existing R & L steel tube and five of the simple Marauder style cup baffles. My barrel front bushing is vented and I’ve drilled three 5/64th inch holes in the fame. That works very well.
Are the baffles mostly flat like a washer with a hole ?

I’m sure if you checked out our resident geniuses you would find a quieter solution in an aluminum tube instead of steel. Eventually, I’ll change to aluminum.
