Q:

Talon pcp Tank dump (edited)

Hi,
My Talon pcp can’t handle
samyang (eunjin) 16 and 19 grn.

Tank dump had occured at various fill pressures 3000, 2800, 2500, & 2200 psi .
What intrigue me is, it shoots smoothly for about 10 shots of samyang /eunjin 19grn after the dump. But with lesser impact at the target.
Power setting was at 10 and 11.
Seen the valve , no cracks or deformation.

Talon pcp
Calibre .177
Barrel 18 ”
Hammer + xtra wt
Almost new pcp shot about 70 pellets only.

Please suggest any remedy. Am new to AF.
What all will be required to convert it to .25 calib . besides the barrel.

If it still has a .177 talon valve, it should not have an extra hammer weight in it. If it is a talon valve for .177, a Talon Tunes adjustable tophat valve stem will not fit. It is too large in dia. But the parts are easily obtainable. 😉

Hi,
Thanks for the many useful suggestions.
Phew… I need to understand the pcp airgun jargons.

“beautiful heavy pellets” …lol those pellets will have a beautiful Rainbow trajectory Too! Unless you up the power a considerable amount/as if converting it to modified condor specs. [note: All pellets have a pronounced trajectory; but, heavy pellets and lower power air rifle=Too Much Rainbow Trajectory, for accuracy.] [Cost more, Too!]

Since the air rifle is new to you; what I would do is establish if it is stock or already modified? Hmmm; first thing I would do: order the 2-stage trigger sear from AOA.
Order the 1-piece valve [tophat] with the holey inserts from Talon Tunes [adjustable/stronger/ready]
LOOK at all the pics there; should be one of a stock Talon hammer=does your hammer Look like that?

You Do have a chronograph, right? If not, get a prochrono, with lights.

If I thought that you might be satisfied with around 20 ft. lbs. I would suggest considering a regulator.

Hi,
It was bought from a dealer who imports from pyramidair. The xtra wt was already there inside.
Now I wonder if Talon pcp comes with extra weight or not. If not then who puts it in. oh no have I got myself a refurb talon 😳 🙄 .
well it shoots other lighter pellets with pleasure and accuracy specially JSB Exacta 10. .. grn.,
H & N silverpoint and crossman premier in that order of accuracy.
Trying heavy pellets was just for the fun, told you am new to AF. And Boy ..boy I am liking this Talon with lighter pellets.
He he he big bore I got 5 tins of H & N .25 pellets and want to try these beautiful heavy pellets.
So making an effort to swap the barrel to .25 . Need suggestions. ? valve spring and ? hammer wt.

Thanks in advance.

Question: why the “extra weight” in front..? Of the Hammer?

Why such heavy pellets? How does it shoot cpl or cph? or jsb?

Usually a pellet can be seated with just thumb pressure; if those heavy pellets are so tight that you have to use extreme force to seat them=they are Too Big for that barrel. [or slugs/bullets…=not for .177]

If you are interested in a “bigger bore” [.25 to me is big bore…for an air rifle] The Condor shooters “speak” That language! lol

Hi,
Thanks Walkonk, Gerald and Maw for the response.
Am new to AF pcp.
Mine is talon pcp .177 , 18″ barrel.
It has an extra weight in front of the hammer.

I do push the tight samyang 19grn pellet using the screwdriver’s flat end.
Will try pushing it bit further in.

Dump was at pressure higher than 2200 psi.
Power at 10 +

It does shoot the SY 19grn at lower pressure . At the same power setting after the dump but with lesser force at the target.
But at higher than 2200 psi it dumps at the first or after 1 or 2 shots.

My second query is to swap the barrel with .25 .
What all will be required to be changed. Besides the barrel.
Hope I have conveyed the problem.

Waiting for advice.

Just put the barrel in unless you have a 177, then you have to change the spring in the valve, you don’t have to, you can try it out and see how you like it. I suspect you have a 177, and a too heavy of a hammer, building too much back pressure, you can try raising the top-hat way out.

I suspect that the reason that you have not had many replies is that your post is very confusing; at least, to me. I suggest that you repost, in a much more detailed report/question.
Sometimes a tank will “dump” [empty/ or, use way too much air for one shot] because of using a much too heavy hammer…could That be a clue?
The pellets: need more info

How far do you seat the pellet in the barrel?

Try seating the pellet skirt perfect flush to the barrel or even a hair deeper
