Q:

Talon scout rifle?

I am new to the TAG forum and do not have a Talon in hand – yet. I have been lurking, trying to figure out how badly I wanted one of these, and which one I wanted. Narrowed it down to starting with a Talon SS in .22 (and adding a co2 adapter for low power work – was tempted to get the Edge tank to do the same, but CO2 is cheep, and the Edge tank is harder to come by). The CO2 would be used for indoor or near house work – where temp drops should not be a huge issue.

More lurking, and trying to decide how to put it all together into the most useful package – and came up with a most likely unworkable thought. Has anyone tried to build up a Talon as a scout rifle? The concept behind a scout rifle is to use a long eye relief scope to get faster aim on targets. Right now my targets are rats and they are NOT sitting still. I suspect there will be problems with cheek weld if the red dot is mounted too low. Likewise I do not know how bad of accurately problems will arise by attempting to use the forward rail as an optics mount. I do know that this concept was used on Tactical Entry AR15’s a while back, but an AR15’s recoil tube is less bulky and allows for a lower cheek weld. On the AR15’s the scout system was almost always used in conjunction with back up iron sights (buis). Using the rear buis forces the shooter to get their eye centered with the scope and eliminates parallax error.

Will need to score a Dovetail to Picatinny adapter to try it – so am asking if this project is a fail from the beginning before I spend the funds.

I am in the process of building a TSS carbine. It is an old TSS that I will be putting a Talon P valve with a 22 CI tank on it and a 16 inch .25 barrel. The scout rifle setup has merit for this setup and I will have to keep this in mind.

that’s one of the beauties of the AF rifles…you have plenty of sighting devices mounting options…

Promising and depressing at the same time. I picked up a Nikon scope a few months ago. I needed it yesterday, so got it local rather than ordering from a “participating Nikon dealer” Nikon had a special that would have thrown in those rings. I did not think it was that big of deal as they were not appropriate for the build of the moment.

At the moment considering dropping the idea. I have several pistol scopes that have good homes, but I have a mach dot on a pistol that I need to consider disposing of. Currently hunting for normal optics and will probably play with lasers for the short range running targets. (Will be hunting stores today – got to have glass before tomorrow evening).

I had this set up on a Talon a while back. Had a bsa edge pistol scope mounted on the barrel frame rail with nikon P223 scope rings. It looked and worked great.
Have since sold the gun, but I hope to do the same setup on a Talon pistol sometime.
