Q:

Talon ss 177 vs 22 can’t decide!

So I ordered an SS from Pa on Friday in 177 and am now having second thoughts thinking I should have gotten a 22. I have a 1377 and a springer in 177 and every other air rifle I have ever had has been 177. I’m sure I could call first thing in the morning and change my order but need some help deciding… I will mainly backyard plink and a bird here and there. And maybe some squirrels every once in a while.

I like having the higher velocity of 177 for range which won’t be further than 40 yards just thought it would be nice to get a 22 but after seeing the numbers a stock SS in 22 is around 750 fps. I know it carries more energy and why it flies slower.

Would you guys try and ditch the 177 for the 22 or keep that for the backyard and get a 22 in an 18″barrel so as to get the bump in velocity and power at the cost of sound?[/list]

Dude
That’s a no brainer, get the 22 at least
When I first started airgunning it was .177
Never looked back
22 is the way to go, then someday, 25 will be inthe works
I have a couple Talons .22, great guns, easy to get ammo
To me, .177 is just a whimpy projectile, nevermind
FPS, it is all about accuracy and knock down power
I guess .177 is only good for one thing,
Shootin Paper, which is fine, however 22 brings a
Much better all round choice

SAW

Guess my question is, is the loss of fps in 22 noticable between 22 and 177?

I would like to stay with the 12″ barrel for sound. I would only use the 18 when I’m out of town not in the backyard…

If your gonna go with an 18 inch barrel maybe you should just get a Talon. They’re about 20 bucks less than an SS.
