Talon SS chrony playing.

Thought I would make my first post with some boring numbers. 🙄

I tested the straight out of the box Talon SS in 177 with the chrony. I got the talon backing 2005, but haven’t shot it much due to that f**king AF hand pump pumping. 😡 Now I have a air compressor. 😎 😎 😎

My objective was to learn the sweat spot (air pressure) and to see what that thumb wheel really did in fps.

The procedure was to fill the tank to 3k for each string of shots and decrease the pressure by one turn of the thumb wheel. Pellets used for the test were Crosman Primers Heavy (10.5g), just because I have three boxes of them and they are not the best shooting pellet out of the Talon SS.

I started at the high end and descended, so the first setting was 12 on the scale and 8 on the wheel. The number 8 was just picked out of the clear blue on the wheel.

The first string of shot (sos) at 12/8 (scale/thumb wheel) average 839 fps.
sos 11/8 avg 845, with a 6 fps increase.
sos 10/8 avg 841, with a 3 fps decrease.
sos 9/8 avg 847, with a 5 fps increase.
sos 8/8 avg 763, with a 84 fps decrease.
sos7/8 avg 663, with a 100 fps decrease.
sos 6/8 avg 571, with a 91 fps decrease.
sos 5/8 avg 487, with a 84 fps decrease.
sos 4/8 avg 407, with a 79 fps decrease.
sos 3/8 avg 338, with a 69 fps decrease.
sos 2/8 avg 278, with a 59 fps decrease.
sos 1/8 avg 230, with a 48 fps decrease.

It looks like 9 on the scale and 8 on the thumb wheel is the sweat spot for the highest ft lb. When I get a chance, I will fine tune the test to see if I can squeeze and couple more fps out of it by turning the thumb wheel by only a quarter of a turn on each side of the 9/8 setting.
