Q:

Talon ss top hat?

Could someone tell me if talon tunes one piece top hat would be a good choice for a stock talon ss in 22. Also would the one piece quick change top hat be a good fit for this rifle? I have had this rifle about two weeks and have already experienced some movement in the stock top hat. It has delivered
some low power shots. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks for the link to the dynamite driver going to order one tomorrow.

Well I think I have the top hat tight I used a .050 alen and it seems tight.

Could you tell me what Allen key I need for the set screw? Thank you.

I have to head to the hardware store here in a few ill see what I can find. All I had was a cheap Allen wrench it did have quite a bit of flex to it.

it is not normal to be able to move the top hat once you have the set screws secured. Be sure that the tip is not rounded on the allen wrench. I use a tool steel tipped wrench like this:

Won’t round the tip but with too much force you could break the tip.

Ok I just broke out the Swiss file set and flattened the set screws and cleaned them with some denatured alcohol. I added a drop of blue lock tite to them and reinstalled . I did notice while snugging them up that I could move the top hat some with the Allen wrench. Is that normal? I will have to let the thread locker dry and then try it again.

Thanks for the advice I will get out the files and try that. Any idea how high I should set the top hat ?

maybe a quick e mail to Tony to ask him what his thoughts are. I’m sure he has tested it on an Talon and could give you specifics.

As far as keeping your top hat from self adjusting you might consider taking these steps.

Remove the set screw. Carefully grind, file, or sand down the bottom of the set screw so it is flat. This give more surface area for more holding power.

Check to make sure the set screw does not protrude past the outside diameter of the top hat. If so, then file down the set screw till it is doesn’t. This will keep the delrin bolt from grabbing the set screw and trying to turn the top hat as well as damaging the delrin bolt.

Next clean the set screw and where it screws into the top hat with some sort of degreaser to remove any oil, metal particles, etc., and apply a dab of thread lock. I use fingernail polish.

Mine has yet to come loose over a couple of thousand pellets.

Ok it has been explained to me that the tt top hats are for high flow valves. I put some blue lock tight on the grub screws iwill have to see how well she hold the adjustment now.
