Q:

Talon SS Virgin says hello;) eager apprentice

I posted a query on hunting weapons for El Salvador but in my zeal, I forgot to introduce myself and throw in my 2 cents about this new found hobby of mine.

Anyway,,,salutations to everyone and a bunch of outstanding information here. I am in the dirt-grime city of Los Angeles but I travel back and forth to Central America to attend to my small retirement house I bought in a small town just outside of a jungle.

I have been an L.E officer for over 20 years and finished with it. Funny, but during my years on duty, I developed a love-hate relationship with modern firearms. I loved ’em because they were tools that could save lives. I developed more of an abhorrence or disgust with them because they required little skill to pick up and kill with. Any buffoon with a loud mouth, bad temper and cowardice painted on his back could pick up a 9mm pistol and cause mayhem. I’m not against ownership of firearms…just my philosophy.

I found zen-like peace with more “primitive” weapons such as compound bows, cross-bows, blowguns, spears, knives and slings. There seemed to be a meld of physical strength, aptitude, patience and a true love of the outdoors to mesh with one of these weapons and make them work for you if you did your part.

Now, I own no firearms at all. I sold off all my guns and have a house that looks like the Smithsonian Institute—spears, slings, arrows, bows, etc hanging from the walls.

I stumbled across airguns as an interesting blend of modern technology and primitive “human aptitude”. The aura of a Benjamin Franklin tinkering aspect, some old world engineering, use of a naturally occurring physical element (gas-air) allowed me to embrace modern technology yet still adhere to my choice to stay on the new chosen path of non-firearm weapons.

Coincidentally, firearm ownership is highly restricted in El Salvador and much of Central America. Airguns are still seen as toys in Central America since they have not been widely exposed to the mayhem of modern technology, compressed air, alloy metal, and a .22 kodiak pellet.

Owning airguns is no problem down there. I have seen game of all sorts in the jungle just outside of my little hovel. Mule deer, coyote, pest parrots, crow, raccoon, skunk, rats, snakes, rabbit, giant bullfrogs.

Many of the villagers believe in the Chupacabra but I’m not sure if the Talon SS is up for that task–better I take along my Horton 150lb crossbow.

I have never owned a PCP weapon before. I tinkered over the past year or so with traditional CO2, pump, and spring plant weapons but only recently have I become attuned to airguns. More so since these will be survival tools used in my Central American hovel.

I will have a lot of questions on my new Talon SS. Lots of questions. I don’t understand much about all the mechanical mods, chrono mods, and air tank technology so I will be asking questions.

I believe this new path with airguns will augment my happiness and everyone’s “Benjamin Franklin” tinkering gives me inspiration that the human imagination is still alive.

Please be patient with the new apprentice and I hope I can add something to this community and hopefully some photos.

Thank you,
Expat

I’d LOVE to learn to shoot a blowgun from a guy that actually uses one daily to live.

You might have a volunteer 😛
