Q:

Talon Tunes CF Tank on Air Ranger….instructions

So some here may recall that I put a carbon fiber tank from Talon Tunes on both my .177 and .22 Daystate Air Wolf guns, and the difference they made were well worth the coin spent…

I recently was involved in a Christmas gift for my shooting buddy with included the same tank from Talon Tunes for his .177 Air Ranger. I thought I’d document how the installation went this go round in case there was any questions.

Here we see the stock Air Ranger with the Talon Tunes tank for comparison. The tank from Talon Tunes is 480cc, weighs in at 14.3 ounces, has a fill pressure of 250 bar and is DOT certified.

First step is to remove the stock from the action. On both the Air Ranger and the Air Wolf, this is accomplished by removing just one bolt from the underside of the gun.

After that, you now have access to the action and can see where that you will be clamping down the gun in a vice with wooden blocks. Might also be a good time to clean dirt and dust from your gun….

Secure your action in the vice with wooden blocks, taking care to not damage the pressure gauge. The MCT Air Wolf has no gauge on the gun save for the LCD display so you have a bit more to work with. The older CDT and MVT Air Wolf models have the external gauge.

On both of my Air Wolf guns, I had to use a heat gun and a strap wrench or a small oil filter wrench with a piece of leather. They were both on there extremely tight. For this Air Ranger, I was simply able to remove the bottle with my hands.

After removing, you may need to remove the old o-ring. Your new Talon Tunes tank will come with an o-ring.

Next, put a small dab of silicon grease on the o-ring on your new Talon Tunes tank.

….and then simply hand tighten the tank to the gun. The whole installation took less than 10 minutes (with me taking pictures along the way). Of course, like the with the others, this changed the feel of the gun dramatically… and it looks good as well!
