Q:

Talon Tunes CF Tank

Let me start out by saying that I dont like to spend money on most accessories. I suppose that I am bedazzled by bling at times, but it’s hard for me to justify spending out cash for something that on the surface appears quite dull but ‘supposed’ to make a difference on a gun.

That said, I debated for quite a long time on the new CF tank from Talon Tunes. On one hand, it looks pretty cool. It decreases weight of the gun… but it dont really make a huge difference in looks or function. Or so I thought.

Well, I did end up getting the tank after seeing a thread of someone asking about fitting it to a Daystate Air Wolf. My .22 MCT has always been a go-to gun and I figured I’ll shell out the coin for it and see how goes.

This was Friday.

Today, I come home from work to this… blocked out my address so I dont get hate mail. 🙂

Considering that Tony is a few states South of me, that is some ultra fast shipping. Should have come as no surprise though. The online ordering through http://www.talontunes.com was easy and I got email updates when the order was placed… filled… and shipped.

I picked up the box and thought that there must be a mistake. No way a tank was in there. Too light. Sure enough, my order (tank and T shirt) was in there along with some other goodies. I always appreciate a company that will send out cards or stickers or little things. Means a lot and it’s just cool to get little freebies in a box! Note that the knife was not included, but I used it to open the package and thought it looked pretty cool along with so I included it in the pic.

While the tank was purchased for an Air Wolf, I couldnt resist mounting it quickly to one of my Talons to see how it felt. For sure, lightened up the gun significantly and just looked good on it. Decreased the LOP a bit, too… a welcomed feature for those who use an external regulator on the Talons.
After getting a feel for it and a quick photo op, I mounted on my Daystate.

So the hardest part it seems was not emptying the steel tank, but actually getting the steel tank off. I twisted and fought with it until I thought I was going to break my gun. Finally, after securing the action in a vise with some protective blocks and wrapping the steel tank with a bit of leather, I was able to remove it with a small oil filter wrench.

I put the TT CF tank on (it came with an o ring), hand tightened it and put the gun to my shoulder. Just wow! What a difference the tank made. As mentioned, I fought with spending out money on such an upgrade but after doing so, I’m ready to place another order for my .177 Air Wolf. As another poster had mentioned, I will never go back to a steel bottle. Not only did the TT tank reduce weight, but the gun balances much better. Being DOT certified, I never have to worry about reselling the tank or wondering if it was made or labelled under suspect conditions. Tony has made sure to bring a top notch product to us.

So yes… the tank is definitely a worthwhile upgrade to the Air Force guns, but it equally shines on front bottle guns. THIS should be the new standard for any bottle gun.

Would this CF tank also fit a Theoben Rapid?

They are nice, no doubt… and hey, RJ, nice seeing you at the show again. Folks… RJ is good people. Met him twice now at the Hickory Airgun Show and always a pleasure.

I’m trying to talk Vince into trading out his Air Ranger to me… and if he does, then I’ll be getting yet ANOTHER CF tank from Tony to fit to that gun. I have to say, anyone with a bottle gun, this CF tank is the cats ass. No doubt.

I’m building a 257 condor for one of my customers, he bought one of the cf tanks and I’d have to say they are nice.

Thank you, sir… Turned out really nice… going to put a post in the ‘other guns’ section with the other tank I bought from you!

Great review Rob…
Thank you my friend..
