TalonSS versus Coyote
A lot has been said about US AIRFORCE AirGuns and just what a good air gun they are , today I’am going to tell you just how glad that I own one , because it saved my 2 year-old Grandsons’ life . At 10:30 a.m. on the 28 th. of April my Grandson James was going out into my back yard to play with his toys
and being that my yard is enclosed with a 6ft. fence I had no major concerns about his safety . With-in several minutes as I was watching James playing from my sliding master bedroom door I was shocked to see a big coyote coming over the fence into my back yard .The closest gun to me was my TalonSS in .22 cal. and so I grabbed it . It was already set up for shooting crows with Crow Magnum 18.21 gr. pellet . The coyote was about 20 yards from James and about 9 yards from me when he stopped and started staring at James . Since my power setting was only on #4 , I aimed directly between his eyes and fired . The coyote did a 1 1/2 backward somersault and then laid down with both hind legs quivering in its’ final death throne . I was elated that the coyote was dead but my Grandson didn’t understand why I killed the Doggie , so I told James that the Doggie had to take a nap and go night-night which then was okay with him . I really didn’t know at the time that my TalonSS would be able to kill such a large animal being set-up as it was , but being an ex war sniper I was going to do my best to protect James and put as much hurt into that coyote that I could and so in the end every thing worked out for the best .

Side note.
Though there is much room for improvement with the AirForce line, they fill their niche quite nicely. If they made all of the improvements that everyone desires, they would not be what they are and would cost as much as a FX, Daystate, etc. Personally, I like the fact that they are a very flexible platform that if I do not like it exactly as it is, I can tinker with it until it is what I desire.

and make a split second decision as I have been trained to do there was no other choice to make . If you have never been in combat and never had to make a life or death decision , then you will never know why I thought I made the right choice in shooting the coyote .

I’m glad to hear that your training carried over into your personal life and saved your grandson. Thanks for your service. I was in the Marine corps but I never made it to the fleet after camp Lejeune. At age 19 I was arrested for a Murder (committed when I was 17) and then dropped into a “hand to hand” combat zone for 12 years. I suppose that is why my instinct would have been to put myself in between the threat and my child, and if need be, snap that coyote in half. Glad that dog stayed still while you were taking aim, and glad it turned out good for both of you.

Don’t think I would have wasted a second reaching for anything…would have opened that sliding door and closed those 9 yards in a heartbeat, got my child to safety, then set up a shot, but glad things worked out for you and more importantly, your grandson.
