Tank Volume
Anybody know how to figure out tank volume of a tank with different pressure? Say 4500 psi 70 ci tank with only 3600 psi in it. How many ci now? Thanks

Thanks. I found on google a place to plug in numbers but it wouldn’t go below 1 cubic foot. I came up with 56 ci. or a 20% dfference. Isn’t atmospheric pressure 14.7?
A tank has two volumes. It’s liquid volume which never changes and it’s air volume which does. The liquid volume should me marked in liters on the side of the tank.
To work out the cf/ci of a tank you can divide the pressure by 14.5 to get the pressure in “bar” and then multiply by the liquid volume to get the volume of air. You might need to convert liters to cu.ft. cu.in.
So 4500psi / 14.5psi = 310 bar …… 70cuft / 310bar = 0.22 cuft liquid volume.
At 3600psi / 14.5psi * 0.22 cuft = 55 cuft of air.
I forgot to deal with the ambient atmospheric pressure of 14.5psi in the equations above as they aren’t material for our pressure levels.
Also, a quick rule of thumb, your air tank will increase/decrease pressure by 5psi for every 1F change in temperature. So you may want to under fill or over fill by 100psi for a transition to warmer or colder hunting sessions.
