Q:

TD257 DOWN…257 DOWN!!!! Ok, its fixed now..lol!

Well, long story short, just when I got the TD257 reconfigured to the new MD STOCK, my 1st outing with her since then, I had a “Splitting” experience. Yeah, that’s right, I removed the WOK Butt stock and then removed the Air Force bipod and then installed a REAL bipod on the MD stock and off I went. Well, once at my locale, I got roughly 10 shots into my session and the dang gun malfunctioned. Man, I was so excited to test the gun in its new config and BAM, the breech breaks on me while in the field……….ARRRRRRRGH!

But hey, its all good, the gun has thousands if not 10’s of thousands of shots through her. Hey, let be real…….stuff happens………….

Split breech:

The results were nothing more than consistently low shots and not very accurate ones at that!

After crying to Doug, he set up a time and day for me to come over and by the time I could, he had already had an idea for me a new breech.

Reinforced breech:

I removed the crappy air force bipod and installed it on the MD stock where it SHOULD be. I also removed the Wok guard on the bottle. Now she is ready for testing part 2……..

THANKS DOUG NOBLE FOR DOING SUCH GREAT WORK AND KEEPING MY GUN RUNNING.

Stay Tuned!

Keep in mind that with a bigger bore in the breech you make it weak,
When you shoot high power ( solids) it’s possible that it burst.

I use aluminium for a big bore breech.
have fun but shoot safe! :8:

Dougroundup,

The event was definitely UNEVENTFUL thank God! What actually happened was, since the 1st shot, all of the successive shots were low. I thought that to be pretty weird as my TD holds POI/POA consistently from sightin session to sightin session. So, the gun did nothing more than fall short of POA and i never got any blow by or loud crack. Then, i cocked the gun and noticed that the front of the breech split completely off cause it became hard to close the breech which forced me to actually look at what was going on. It was hard to actually tell what had happened at 1st.

With the MD stock, they arent supposed to support the bottle. According to Doug Russell (designer/builder of MD stocks), he has made both versions of the stock. 1 to support the bottle and 1 to NOT support the bottle. He stated that there was absolutely no change in characteristic between the 2 versions. The flex actually comes from the bottle collar and frame which is all supported by the stock. Doug actually encouraged me to support the bottle and test the theory for myself.

STEALTH,

Now yours looks seriously catastrophic………………DAAAAAAAAMN!

The same thing happened to me.

Whoa! SHIT!
I Have always been a little leary of that type of catastrophy.
Lesson here kids-always wear eye protection! It’s not a powder burner and it aint no bb-gun either.
So was it pretty uneventful failure with big woooshhhh of air in the face or was it a poop producing loud explosion like a bottlerocket to the face?
It looks like the failure occured right aound the inside o-ring groove. My fear has been more around the charging handle, where it threads into the breech.
Doug is certainly the man! His machined light metal billet breech condor condom containment device is not only safer and more reliable but looks great with your new stock too! Protection and a fashion accessory! I like it, I like it alot!
Now with the Mad Dog stock, it doesnt actually support the bottle too?
Glad to hear everything is ok and that no big danger if the breech fails. At the rate I am at, I will never put the amount of rounds that you do, but if it does fail, it very well wont be too dangerous, and of course now there is the option of Dougs new design for good safe measure!
