I was going to buy a Wolverine and make a .257” cal bull pup out of it and then FX blindsided me with the Boss!

I was lucky to get the last one that AOA received on their initial shipment. When it came in, I took it to the range and shot it. I did 5 shots each of, muzzle, 50 and 100 yard chrony shots and ChairGun said that the 46 grain 30 cal pellets had a BC of 0.0369.

I had already made a bull pup for a Royale and I hoped that the stock would fit on the Boss. The boss has a 3 inch longer air bottle so; I had to do some stock removal to get the boss to fit. I had had a few beers when I decided to make the Boss fit the Royale stock and it shows. That doesn’t really bother me as the Royale stock was my first attempt and I will do better the next time. I will make another stock for the Boss if my project works out to my liking.

The hacked up bull pup stock turns a 47 inch long Boss into a 35 inch long TeddGun.

Once I saw that the stock would work, I tore the Boss apart to see what I would need to modify to get it to shoot the .257 inch cast bullets that I am going to make for it. I have a Hart, 24 inch long, 1 in 14 inch twist, .250 bore-.257 inch groove, .560 inch OD barrel ordered for it.

I will need to have the screw on brass transfer port/barrel end cap reproduced in .257 cal and I will need a new .257 bolt made. I could not get the bolt out! I had the bolt out on the Royale and I think that I had to drive out all of the trigger assembly pins to remove the bolt. I do remember that it was a nightmare getting all of the parts in the right position so the pins could be drove back in!

Last Friday, the gun was almost completely disassembled when a couple of guys at work asked me to come out and shoot last Sunday. I didn’t have a chance to work on it Friday night. Saturday night, I tried to put the gun together and get it to shoot. FX has changed the trigger on the Boss and it took me around 5 hours to get the gun working in the Royale stock. It took a lot of fitting, woodworking and cussing to get it going!

I loaded everything up and went to my buds place. I had to sight it in at 50 yards. I knew that I would have to chrony and adjust the gun to get it to shooting 870 fps again. I also wanted to know how much higher I could go with it. It won’t go any higher than 870 without a stronger hammer spring or a reg adjustment.

After I got it sighted in, my BB gun buddy and I were having a blast shooting at 50 yards. He wandered off and came back and asked if the Boss would be able to hit small water bottles at 158 yards? I told him that it shouldn’t be a problem as I had printed out Chairgun scope caps for 20, 15, 10 and 6 magnifications for the Hawke 4026, 6-20 X 42 scope and taped them to the side of the gun, the charts would show the needed mag and mil/half mil dot sight point to be on at any yardage.

He grabbed the gun/tripod assembly and took it over to where the guys were setting up the water bottles. At 10 X, the last half mil dot was at 155 yards and I told him to hold a little under it, the shot was high and we needed to use a little above the last half mil dot. The BC of the 30 cal JSBs might be higher than 0.0369 that ChairGun came up with. Once we had the aim point figured out, we would hit the bottle almost every time!

The 5-6 PB guys there each had an impressive amount of weapons and they were taking at least 2-3 shots to hit the bottles. They couldn’t believe that a pellet gun was that accurate and they wanted to try it. Once we told them where the aim point was, they all could hit the bottles, even the ones that were already knocked down and only showing just the bottom of the bottle. A couple of 10-12 year old kids wanted to try and they hit the bottles also.

My BB gun buddy then asked how far away a crossroad sigh was. Two of us lasered it at 288 yards. I turned the scope down to 6 X and told him to try using the last part of the mil dot box, just at the bottom of the scope. He hit the sign! His 10-12 year old boy hit the sign! I know, I know: a crossing sign is diamond shaped and is probably 24 inches across. I drove down and looked at the sign. We were having variable 0-4 mph winds and the groups on the sign were around 10 inch horizontal and 4 inch vertical. All of the shots were off of my tripod setup.
