IMO…red dots are ok for hunting if you can get one that’s less than 2 MOA and are not for “long range” shots.
the average lower cost red dot is normally 2-3 MOA…a ‘dot’ of that size will normally cover the complete target/vermin at even 30 yards.
basically, what i’m trying to say is: that for more precise shooting with a red dot, you’ll probably have to part with more $$$$ for a higher quality scope.
i have a lighted reticle Barska and i think they’re an advantage in low light conditions. you might be better off with a lower powered scope with the lighted reticle/crosshairs.
i have an ATN digital that has five different reticles i’m going to try on my talon to see how it works. the ‘dots’ are 1 or 2 MOA and the cross hairs are MOA. i also have a tasco pro-point i’m going to try…all i gotta do is get the adapters for the mounts… 🙁
my scope that came with the thompson contender hunter pack pistol has one. i like the red crosshair in low light situations. would i go out of my way to buy one probably not. is it cool now that i have it yes.
“Red Dots” and scopes are two different animals. Based on your description, you have a scope with magnification that apparently has an illuminated Target Dot reticle?
