Exactly YN. Another point is that with a springer…The more power you make in the bigger calibers……the more BOOOOOOIIIIIING you have to deal with. Most people see springer NUMBERS and think…”geees..thats what i want….1200 FPS”. Well really…NO YOU DON”T. The spring bounce would be too much to deal with to be accurate if a springer made those “advertised” numbers. If a springer could actually shoot 1200-1500 FPS…..I WOULD NOT WANT TO SHOOT IT.
I agree with Tofu – I prefer a LOT more FPE in .25 than a springer can provide. I find the trajectory too loopy, the pellets too expensive and the extra power only marginally better than a .22 which is flatter, faster and cheaper.
Its fine if your shooting short range, but at that range a .22 will work just as well.. so whats the point.
For coons both would work nice but a .25 in gasram at around 30fpe is great to have.
In a springer i would stay .22 for plenty reasons.
what do you think would be better for racoons and game that size with that Patriot, .22 or .25? Because the .22 would penetrate further I believe, but the .25 would do more damage and hold its energy in the animal. Just wondering what you guys think, I’d go .25.

You tend to see a few 350’s in the Classifieds. I guess folks find them a bit harder to shoot accurately.
I had a fellow send me one to review some time back and yes… it is very powerful… but YES… it takes some getting used to. I found it to be very accurate but a bit longish and unwieldy….but then again, really no moreso than a Patriot or Kodiak.
In .177, one is better off shooting pellets in the 10.5gr and up range. The one I tested was a .22 and 14.3gr pellets were fine out of it. Shot them around 780fps or so.

I think I could prolly get that speed if I used those PBR rounds, or the plastic rounds with the aluminum tip…but NO THANX!
That is why I am trying to sell it. I want more stuff for my new gun!! ( like an 18″ .177 cal barrel among MANY many other items!

Unless it’s dieseling, you wont see 1250fps out of it….. If it’s .177, you should be around the 1000fps mark with mid weight pellets.

I have an RWS model 350 Mgnum, spoda be one of the strongest springers out there…(Rated @ 1250FPS)

As in PCP, the more powerful springers are wasted on .177.
If you can find a used Patriot or Kodiak in .22, you’re looking at roughly 26fpe. 29fpe in .25.
You also have the Crow Mag and Eliminator that fall into those categories.

I’m not real up on springers but I think the Patriot/Webley .25 was/is considered to be one of the strongest ones, 30+ fpe I believe in .22

Barring powerplant, .25 wins out… but as YN and Tofaz eluded to, we are talking springer here…. as the simple fact is that bit springers are hard to shoot accurately.
I consider myself a seasoned springer shooter. I have a gas rammed .22 Patriot and a gas rammed .25 Kodiak. All things equal, the .25 gives me more fpe…. BUT.. the .22 is by far the more accurate.. or rather the .22 is the easier to shoot accurately. I can stack 5 pellets inside a 50c piece at 50 yards with the .22. It is about 5 fpe less than the .25… but the .25 is much harder to group, especially at the longer ranges.
