Thanks Eddie and Grit for the responses…..
Okay lets say I would’t be offended about keeping the original color and going in for the dupicolor spatter paint.
http://www.duplicolor.com/products/trunkSpatter/
Will “dupicolor spatter paint” be more durable than fusuion paint ?
Lets say.. with careful usage of the weapon in the field, would it hang on for 5+ years….
The point is I don’t want to keep doing the patch work. Once done
should be full and final, unless you abuse it by rough usage.
if not interested in keeping it “original” one cannot beat the durability of dupicolor spatter paint (trunk liner) it comes in gray and in black. I do all of my tacticool stocks with 5 coats of this stuff and it is tuff as NAILS! It would never even think about coming off after sitting against a surface for a few months 😡
You can get it at autozone or advanced for about 7.00
Mistman sorry for the late reply the fusuion paint is holding up well! it maches the original Ed paint so well I just sanded a bit on a few places I had nicks and scrapes on and it blends right in and seems to be doing just fine! If you were to paint your compelte stock I would not take it completly down to the wood unless you want to! sand off the nicks wipe it off with a good cleaner like mineral spirts with just a little on a rag, spray paint it and you are done. I am not one to put on paint thick a few light coats and you will be ready to go, let it sit for at least a good day!
Hey Eddie,
Could you give us an update on how well the Krylon Fusion has held.
I too am facing the same issue, posted by other members.
When the Matador is being kept away for like 2 weeks and taken out of its soft case the mat finish inside the case get embossed on the stock of the Matador.
Appreciate instructions to apply the Krylon Fusion too.
Cant afford to get this thing wrong, so it better be right the first time.
Any other hands on review of the stock redone, folks do chime in….
Any thought of why it could be happening and how it could be avoided.
Just a heads up on paint I saw Ted post on painting his stock looks great! My intension was to get the Rust Oleum he used, I had some scuff marks on the bottom of the forend on my Edgun, I saw a can of krylon they didn’t have the Rust Oleum anyway the Krylon is called Fusion for smooth items like plastic wood and metal, What I was going by was the color of the cap looked like a good match so I bought it, I have painted allot of things in my time and this color is about a computer match for the Edgun here is a couple pictures of it, the flash kind of covered up part of the color name but it is called 2520 Black/ Negro don’t let the color name fool you it is a dark gray I will also post the bottom of my forend, trust me this is a good as it gets also a Textured finish 😆

Well, I think you can find it in Europe and buy from them. For example in France:

You have to find 0008 paint.
The WS Plas 4200 isn’t available in the U.S.
I searched the internet far and wide and could find no such paint.
What would be nice to own, would be a “touch up kit” from Tony, containing 2 oz to 4 oz of factory stock paint for minor dings and such.
Ed could send Tony a gallon. Since a gallon has 128 ozs in it, and little plastic 4 oz bottles can’t cost that much at a hobby story. That’s 32 bottles in a gallon, at say $10.00 a bottle, (or 2 oz at $5.00) shipped = $320.00. The question is whether the paint can be purchased cheaply enough, and shipped to the U.S. to allow Tony to make a profit at that price.
Hoot 😯
I see you are in Texas. Bear in mind that if you spray the duplicolor on the stock in a humid environment, it will take a couple days to dry properly. So, wait for a dry day if possible. And don’t paint it if you are going hunting the next day. You can grab the stock 30 minutes after you spray it, but it takes a day or two to stop feeling tacky.
Njnoodles, your Edgun sat in a rifle rack, a few months untouched? WTF? Were you in the hospital or away on a long trip? 😆
Thanks Ed. I will try to find the paint. My gun gets used every day and I would like to re-finish it this winter. It will need it by then as I am a clumsy oaf!
i had a similar thing happen with my stock. Some foam from my rest stuck
to the stock and if you rub the paint with a little pressure it will come off.
I am thinking of just getting some spray on bedliner I saw at Lowe’s and refinishing it.
EDIT… I just watched Ted’s vid and I think I will do the Duplicolor also.
When you see it on the HD Youtube vid it really looks great.
We use WS Plast 4200. Hope you can buy it in States, that is German made paint.
test
Are you talking about the stock paint?

Don’t know how well any finish would do in 5+ years and I don’t really have any experience with the fusion paint…all I know is the spatter paint is meant to line the trunks of cars and I found that it dries pretty dam tuff! I doubt any paint will be thicker…therefore if you layer it properly you will have one nice coat of paint on your stock. I sealed mine in a clear coat with another five coats..It has been doing well for over a year now.
