test results of three valve comparison in my 2250 (PICS)

This little carbine is called: “Drilled & Filled”. It is Crossman 2250 cart gun. I built this carbine and and decided to test three different valves before deciding on which one would suit it best. I wanted decent power, but I wanted a good shot count first and foremost.

When considering this test, please keep in mind that Roy’s MA modified Crosman valve and the Discovery valve both came from guns that were “bulk filled” (perhaps not meant for the application {12gr cart} which I am subjecting them to…. I would like to try another test with these very same valves in a bulk fill and pcp set up to see how they perform under those conditions…That said, here are some results:

The valve body port opening measurments:

0.1575 Boss
0.1535 Disco
0.198 MA

The TP I used is poly tubing from Alejandro (AC custom parts–for those who don’t know him, he does great work!)

The measurments on his tubing are:
0.193 id
0.239 od
0.037 wall thickness

The barrel port opening is “countersunk” to accept the poly tubing snuggly (is that a word? 😀 )

The only difference in each test was the valve bodies (the internals were shared).

The Discovery valve is a little longer than the others and I had to notch it in order for the breech screw to clear.

73 degrees, 14″ barrel, 14.3 gr CP’s, 15 seconds between shots

As you can see, the Boss Valve outperformed the other two “hands down” (shot count, and power) Again, keep in mind that this was in a 12gr “cart” gun. I am not an expert…so I cannot deduce how they would compare in a bulk fill co2 or pcp gun for that matter…although I am curious to know and I see more testing in the not too distant future 😀

I am happy with my first build in the 22xx format. This gun handles welll off hand. It is a very light and very accurate plinker/hunter. I shot many groups between 15 and 30 yards and it stays in the 1/2″ or slightly better range with 5 shot groupings.

The brake is from Mike at T.K.O. I modified the stock by drilling out the holes, chopping up an AR 15 grip and and fill plug… I thiink it looks good, but the extra “girth” fits my long fingers very nicely and it also adds “grip”. The cheek riser is from one of those “noodles” that the kids use to float around in the pools iwith covered in digital duct tape. The scope is a Nikon 3×9 prostaff held by a Mac1 drooper. I have a T.K.O. trigger kit that I will be installing soon and I am confident this will tighten up my groups as the pull on it now feels like 8 to 10 pounds. I painted it in Krylon Olive drab.
