Q:

Testing of Jerry’s BIG slugs for the .25

Hey Guys,

There has been some talk of Jerry’s slugs for a while now. After a few attempts i finally got it right (NOTHING TO DO WITH THE SLUGS). But, i had to make a decision first. I had to decide if i wanted to chop off the end of my barrel to get rid of the choke OR NOT. Now, for some, that is hard to swallow but for me it wasn’t. 1 main reason, ….i can just buy another barrel. Harsh to say but….I been wanting a ubber powerful small bore and that is just what the CONDOR .25 is. Now, i must say that i did this because every since i met Jerry and found out about his slugs i knew they had some POTENTIAL. We all talk about more power and accuracy but…if given to us…..will we take advantage of it???? I will. And i did. I will try and keep Jerry in business….HE HE. I just might use my Condor and MORE of Jerry’s slugs for my HOG HUNT next year. I already had used his slugs for my June Hog Hunt in my Dragon Slayer 454. Jerry also sent me the newer version of the .25 cal slugs with the stepped base or tapered base but i had already chopped off my barrels choke so i don’t know how they would have performed with the standard choke. But i was more that willing to take the plunge.

Anyway, after this weekend…this is the FIRST time i have really been TOTALLY comfortable with my Condor. Even though i have taken many a game with it (YN, Teflon Tron, WalkonKing, and Rob3dr remember from years ago), i always loned for a rifle with more precision. I am much happier with my Condor NOW than i have been since WAAAy back when she was in .22. Probably even moreso now. To tell you guys the truth….i was honestly gonna sell my Condor. Till now (the above post was not written for DRAMATIC effect but, the truth).

Now, lets get off the SAPPY stuff and to the good stuff.

The MOD: Chopped off 1.5 inches (that 1.5″ of barrel is really HEAVY and HARD) of my 23.8″ LW barrel. I recrowned it and polished the end i chopped off. Please don’t ask for pics…i did not take any. And i had never done it b4 but, i knew what to do. Came out OK. Probably not as good as TIMW or Andrew but good enough for me.
The gun still is making 130 FPE!!!! About 835-840 fps with 85 grain slugs. OK OK OK…i’m getting to it.

The Targets: I set up my targets at the usual range…..50 YARDS. I then refilled the CONDORS tank to 3100 psi and started shooting. Now, i must say this 1st…..the DIVE SHOP screwed me ROYALY. I took my tank in to get it TOPPED OFF and they LET OUT AIR instead. I took it in with 3800 psi in and i got to the field with 3200 psi LEFT IN IT (WHAT THE FUCK!!!). So needless to say………i wanted to strangle someone. Here are some pics of the groups i got with JERRY various SLUGS.

50 yrds-5 shots @ 85 grains/.251″ New Version (tapered base):

50 yrds-5 shots @ 83 grains/.252″ Original Version (flat base):

50 yrds-5 shots @ 66 grains/ .251″ New Version (tapered base):
The shot that went high left was a flyer (my bad…usually don’t do that). But, i shot an extra slug to get the lower 5 shot group.

Here is a CANTELOUPE set up at 52 yrds away that i shot with a couple of 66 grain slugs from a 2600 psi fill (tank was low on air):

Now here is a short video of me blasting with some of the slugs Jerry made for me. Some 83 grainers and some 74 grainers and some 66 grainers:

I will be doing more testing and hunting with the slugs and i will be posting again with more results. If you guys want some heavy and ACCURATE slugs..please give them a try. They are worth it. I really appreciate Jerry and Gary Barnes and JERRY’S KIDS (he he he), those are some hard working boys. Thank you guys for FUELING our Passion.

Very nice, Ced. Been looking forward to seeing what you can do with the slugs. After Roanoke, I’ll be getting with Jerry on another order of the slugs and will end up with the newer versions. I’m happy with the results and want to make sure that I keep a stash of them around for whenever I want to shoot chipmunks… 😈

Well, at 3000 psi i get over 900 FPS with the 66 grainers (118+ FPE)
Have not tested them with a fill of 3400 psi.
With the 85 grainers i was getting a tad over 130 FPE at about 835 FPS.

some of the shots in the video was from about 2600 psi and not 3000 with the camera 50yrds downrange at targets.

NICE VIDEO!
What velocity for 66 grain??

thanx guys. there will b more 2 come when my new order comes n.

Nice report Tofazfou. And good shooting 😀

Thanks for the report, Tofazfou! They look like winners to me.

I’m sending you a PM.

YN, he he he he.
The barrel is the standard rifling version. I will check into the non choked version.

Excellent Tofu,

I Just LOVE that pink background on the video 😆

Do you have a polygonal .25? I think you can get them without the choke. Then again, an inch and a half isn’t going to affect performance that much.
