Q:

testing out my new Condor

UPS delivered my new Condor yesterday. This is my first PCP rifle however its not my first air gun. I have been shooting airguns my whole life.

I filled the tank to 2700psi and grabbed some 14.3 gr Crosman Premiere Domed pellets since I have 1000’s of them for use in my other guns. I shot a few and was shocked how loud the gun was. The chrono said 1355 fps and the gun was on setting 6. The pellets were not grouping like I wanted at 30yds so I lowered the power setting to the lowest it would go. The chrono now said 1148fps and it was still loud. I shot more and eventually the crack of the sound barrier went away and my groups starting looking like one hole. yay! The crono said 1028fps at this point. I shot 25 or so more times and the 30yd groups were fantastic and my end shot was 960fps. Time for 50yd shooting.

I took it in to check out the tank pressure and it was 1500psi. So i filled it to 2000psi this time and will shoot it down to 1000psi. The first shot of the 2000psi fill was 1128fps. The hitting power of this gun is like nothing I have ever seen in any of my other guns. These little 14.3gr pellets are shooting right through a pine 2×4 that I use to hold my targets. amazing.

My initial thoughts on the Condor is its a quality piece of equipment. Its by far my most expensive air rifle and I only have a scope on it with no other accessories (yet). It is also a heavy gun unlike my Sheridan.

I ordered some heavier 28gr pellets but they were back ordered. I will use them for hunting and the 14.3 gr will be perfect for my backyard plinking and I have an infinite supply of those already.

I like it….

So far the JSB 18.1gr pellets are shooting great. I fill the tank to 2000-2100psi, and the power setting is on 0. Pellet speed is 1050-1100 on the first few shots then its constantly at 1000-1050 for the rest of the tank. I refill the tank at about 900psi or so and the pellets are still shooting at 975 fps or so. They group quarter sized at 50yds with no problem. Good enough for me.

I do not own any kodiaks but my dad bought some so I might try some out. the JSB Jumbos are easy to get and the Kodiaks seem to always be out of stock….sigh… I have some Ein Jins 28gr but have not shot them yet.

As for my 1000’s of 14.3gr pellets, they are perfect for my crosman 2260 CO2 and I will shoot them up in that gun.

This is for pre lubing your pellets. I use only 28 grain in my condor, 21 gr in my talon ss, this is what works best for me.
You need to get some divers silicone for lubing the o-rings around your breach.
They don’t snug up the allen head screws on the top hat too much ,because it will deform the tube they tighten down on. Always open the breach before removing the tank, an o-ring rides on the tophat to seal the air chamber. Get a feeler guage, like for spark plugs an measure
the top hat distance clearance from the tank. From the factory they are around .090 to around .115. It could be less, but not from the factory, Their concern is that the gun will shoot per the advertisied specks. You will need a .050 allen wrench to loosen the 2 screws to make any adjustments on the tophat.
This may be to much information right now but good for yall to be thinking about it, because it will come up later.

Congrats on your new Condor! You need to get the 21gr Kodiaks. The Condor with its great power was designed for heavier pellets. Use the 14.3gr ones with your Springers or CO2. Also the 28.4gr Eun Jins are good to shoot (they yield the most energy) but you will find that the 21gr Kodiaks are probably the most accurate. I have not tried 18gr JSB’s because I ‘m afraid they ‘ll fly too fast. My Condor shoots the Kodiaks at 1,000-1,030fps with a 2100-2200psi fill and PW at 0. I like that velocity and don’t want them going any faster. I refill when it drops down to the mid-800’s. If I shoot EunJins I ‘ll raise the fill pressure a little and the PW slightly to 2-3 and start off at 960-970fps.

Set up your gun where it will be consistent and use less air with each shot at “manageable” velocities. Don’t want to go near the dreaded 1,100fps sound barrier. So use heavy pellets! They hit hard and are great for hunting. Start selling your light pellets. So what’s you got? 😀

Where can you buy FP-10 I am assuming it is an oil of some sort thanks Eddie

Congrats on the new bird. As a word of note, if you shoot those light Premiers through your Condor, expect accuracy loss periodically. Premiers are notorious for leading the barrel in the Condors.

If you have them turned down around the 950fps mark it wont be as bad… but we normally dont buy a Condor to turn it down….

So get yourself some Kodiaks, put a few drops of FP-10 in the tin and have fun without leading up your barrel.

I am a new condor owner and have very little experience with the rifle. Do not take any of my info as “the perfect setup” since it’s all new to me too. There are many other users on here with much more experience than I have and will have more insight on what you are looking for.

I am shooting really light weight pellets because that’s all I have currently. They shoot too fast and I had to set the gun on its lowest setting and not pump the tank all the way up to get them to shoot well. This setup is short range (less than 50yds) and seems pretty good for the back yard plinking for cheap. 14.3gr Crosman pellets are cheap and available everywhere.

I ordered heavier pellets (JSB Jumbo and EUN JIN 28gr) and will have to set the gun totally different for those pellets. I most likely will shoot these in the condor and save the 14.3gr stuff for my Crosman 2260.

Since you asked here is what I have:
Stock condor with 24″ barrel (HPA)
Cheap centerpoint 3×9 scope (illuminated)
Centerpoint high profile rings

I am getting a new Codor also next week about Wed if you would keep my posted what kind of scope do you have and did you say you have the Condor turned all the way down and it is shooting this well keep me posted by email and here so when I get mine you can let me know what is working good for you thanks Eddie

I to am getting a new Condor next week so if I read your post correct you are on your lowest setting and getting great results? if you would keep my posted by email or whatever was your gun hard to set up and what kind of scope do you have if you have one? I am interested because I am going to go through what you are going through so maybe you can save me some time by letting me know what to do thanks Eddie

Congrats!

Don’t forget to try some 21 gr. Kodiaks! They seem to work well for every one who has tried them in the Condor. 😀

I ordered some of the 18 gr JSB’s from AOA a couple of months ago but they never showed up. 🙁

I have a shroud ordered. I will have it in a week or so.

I’ll try some of the heavier pellets that are under 20gr. Its all about easy access to pellets for me because I’ll shoot the condor more than mess with it.

First of all congrats on the Condor…No matter what you do, without a
shroud, it will never be quiet. Shroud will be next I am sure…
I have been shooting JSB Exact 15.9’s and 18.1’s with great results
@ 65yds…You can fill to a higher psi and they are a lot more stable
than the lighter pellets….I am shooting them anywhere from
930-1,050 FPS….Anything higher than that starts to break the
sound barrier which makes the pellet really unstable. With my rifles,
it seems, anything lower than 900 starts to spread the groups out
at 65yds…..28gr will probably work great. My only reason for using
the JSB 15.9’s is that they are available 95% of the time. The 18.1’s
are a little harder to get..I am waiting on some now….
You will have a blast shooting at 50yds…Don’t be disappointed if
the groupings are a little spread out at first…It will take a little
shooting to figure out how the rifle likes to be held…These things
can shoot 1 hole 5 shot groups at that distance…Patience
and perseverance will prevale…
Most of all ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!
