Q:

Texan 357 tuning

Ok, so I just won this 357 Texan, lucky me I guess. For the time being I’m shooting some Air Venturi 127gr flat nose bullets. Understanding that the Texan doesn’t tune exactly like a conventional PCP with an increase in HS = more velocity. I filled to their max pressure of 3000# which I expected was going to be waaay too much but I did want to see a full string. First shot was 486fps, 11th shot was 803, 12th it jump up to 947fps at 2500#. The next 5 were 938, 940,923,918,910, ending at 2200#. How does this look, is 930 or so a good speed? It seems to be grouping fair at 50yds, maybe 1.0-2.0″. I know there are better bullets available but for the time being while tuning and plinking these will do.

From where my power adjuster is set currently will increasing the spring tension clockwise or downward increase my FPS or is it the opposite?
I think if I can get a better trigger somehow my groups should get better as well. What are my options there? The trigger kind of stinks, too heavy and too much creep. Any help from the pros would be appreciated.

Yes Jimmy,
You will see a couple more shots with higher velocity.
Sounds like you know what you are doing.
Good luck.
Thanks, Tony

Just asking because I don’t know but what is the benefit of tuning and filling to 3000 vs 2500-2600 if I’m getting the velocity of 920-940 with several low ES shots? I currently have the center line of the adjuster dead center of the window. I’m getting five good consistent shots from the peak of the curve and falling off and I think with just a very little more pressure I should be able to get 7 maybe 8. Tony, is this shot count about right for the ES and the 127gr weight? With the adjuster where it is and I fill to 3000 the first shot is as low as 500fps. If I tune the adjuster downward, increasing tension and refill to 3000 I should see an increase in velocity correct, the same way most PCP’s work?

Grackle,
Read the directions on how to add more load to he hammer spring.
You want a high velocity shot at 3000 psi.
Tony

There’s not any numbers on the Texan, one thing I read is that they didn’t want anyone to assume this one tuned like the rest so they didn’t use the numbering system. I appreciate the reply though.
Jimmy

The higher the number on the Power Wheel, the faster your FPS.
