Q:

Texan Barrel & barrelbushings diameter

Good evening all!

I was thinking about buying an Airforce Texan and swapping out the barrel for a .257 LW barrel.

To decide if this project might be worth trying i would like to know the barrel dimensions of the stock Texan .45 barrel.

Does anybody know where to find the dimensions of the stock Texan barrel?
(I can’t seem to find them online).

I would like to know:
– the outerdiameter(s) of the barrel (the thick as well as the thin part)
– the outerdiameter of the barrelbushings

Thanks in advance. 😉

@Whitewolf,

Thank You for the measurements and also for the helpfull thoughts. :biggrinn: Maybe the Texan wont be the most suitable platform indeed.

AF frame interiors vary from 0.998 to 1.008 some have been bit bigger.
Thin part of the bbl is 5/8″ thick portion is 11/16″
Bushing OD 0.004 to 0.008 smaller
As to swithing to a 257 bbl you WILL RUN INTO VAVLE DUMP. Too much back pressure. Valve interior requires restricting to over come this. IMHO not impossible to do but going to be very time consuming to find a balance point. Valve was designed for a large dia projectile.

I would think the Texan would have too much power for a .257 :2cents:
