Q:

Texan talking, listen up or get shot.

  LOL
I do not want to sound to stupid, But the small holes the Earnest drills in the shroud I thought were for sound, You know make it quite????
Well on my 25 Cricket I have always have them covered , I uncovered them and my groups got very tight , I am thinking wow this 25 is shooting as tight as my 22 Cricket at 48 yards, I did clean the barrel on the 25 was that it? I have always loved the bang, pow, smack, thud, whack, and feather explosion of the 25 just not the accuracy, Compared to the 22,,,
Its also been a learning curve to me at shooting the Crickets, But I am learning,
I am sure Earnest told me what the holes were for , But I was so excited about my new guns , In one ear and out the other…
? what do starlings eat??? Sparrows and Euro doves love grain, Grackles love dry dog food,

Thanks, I’ll give that a try this evening when I get home. Seen it used, but never tried it.

Use this site. I don’t like you tube either. https://vimeo.com/

It’s called vimeo

Well, I tried to upload a short video, but the m4v file extension is not allowed. I’d be glad to upload a video or 2 if I could figure out what file format the site accepts. I do not do youtube. I don’t know if I have any of the corkscrewing pellet videos still, but I sure do have some great ones with good pellet flight… some that take off bottle caps at 40 yards and some that thwack a turtle head at ranges from 30 to 100 yards. I can save them in about any format necessary, but I’ve tried a couple and they will not upload…

Any help would be appreciated if there’s a way to load them on here.

Charlie

Saltwater,
Can you post some of your videos ?

You’ll probably find lead enough to cast a couple of pellets. 😉
Have a tight fitting swaps at hand , like Patchworm with cal specific cleaning heads since then you’ll get correct, even tension against the bore.

quote Sir Ville:

3 tins ? You’ll getting chunks of lead out of that barrel.

I’m going to try to pull a swab thru it this evening… will take the shroud off first so I can see what I get. I almost hate to because the thing is shooting so well right now. I took off a turtle’s head 89 yards with it Saturday afternoon…

If anything “interesting” comes out, I’ll post up pics… 🙂

I ported my shrouds for LD pistols for years.

What the holes do is allow some of the air to escape decreasing the report of the gun down range.

I bet it was the barrel cleaning that bring back the accuracy. These .25´s get dirty real fast =100-150 pellets or so.

Wow! I’m going to try cleaning mine. I’ve shot 3 tins or so thru mine, and it’s still makin’ ragged holes at 50 yards. I really need to have a good calm day outdoors so I can stretch it out and see how it does at 100 yards with no wind. I’ve made some unbelievable shots with it on squirrels and turtles, but that’s not a good check on accuracy. That camera with the high speed video recording and shooting into water with the sun at your back sure is cool for checking pellet flight though…

I’m still gettin’ use to this thing, but MAN is it fun to fling lead quietly!

Yes, on the Donny Slip-on-Shroud (SoS), it adds a dampening effect.

Not sure about yours, but if it clips you could try rotating the front cap and keep reference of the rotation, I marked mines on the inside.

IMO, the best pellets to test the back porting effect is with the Polymags.

Mike,
I discovered with the factory shroud that Ernest ported I sometimes got fliers shooting the standard JSB’s. I discovered this while videoing shots with my Casio high speed camera shooting into the water. Out of a magazine, I’d get 1 or 2 pellets that would cork screw instead of fly straight and true. I just thought it was because my gun was shooting a little too hot. When I got my new shroud from Donnie, I put it on and went shooting, then hooked up the camera… no more fliers. I don’t really know what the difference is, but my gun is quieter and shoots tighter groups with Donnie’s CF shroud. I hope to play with it some by switching back and forth between the shrouds and shooting over the Chrony to see if speed is affected. My POI was the same for both shrouds. I got a LDC from Donny to add to the end of it, but am dealing a bit with clipping with it so haven’t messed with it much. I also want to tape up the holes in the factory shroud to see what that does… It still takes out turtles, squirrels and coons with either one, but I have more confidence shooting with Donnie’s shroud on. It makes ragged holes with either, but the CF shroud seems to help me make smaller ragged holes.

Good one, I am going to try the tape on the holes and see what happens, Monday maybe,, I maybe uncovering the 22 holes also…
If I tried the fig on the barrel I do not think I could get the scope sighted in,,
Starlings eat lead? Maybe injected into them with out then knowing,,,,
I have been shooting a lot of paper lately, The bird feeder is pretty well of limits , I am just hoping a lot of the out of state, Town pest birds start showing up.
I got over 100 lbs. of feed I am going to spread all over my acre of land just to see what it brings in…. Its cheap, we will see what happens…..
I am going to wait until the next cold front its been in the mid 70s here in West Texas…..
