The infamous ‘Mr. Condor’….
BB/Tom Gaylord mentioned this name again in his blog today. In the past, he had said that this ‘Mr. Condor’ who messed up his Condor and was giving bad advice was ‘On the forums’.
Today, he specifically said the Talon Owners Group as the place where this person was giving the advice.
I had been a member of the TOG since 04 and I was around when folks started experimenting with heavier hammers. I remember folks even using an old deep well socket as a hammer, with good results. Thats old school mods haha… back in the early days when we first noted that our Condors would not accept a full fill and before the days when Tony was doing his magic.
At no point do I remember a ‘Mr. Condor’… nor do I remember any of the 3 people that I remember experimenting with the heavy hammers doing anything other than experimenting… I dont recall them telling others to do it at all….just reporting what they had discovered.
To any of the Old Guard here who was around before me on the TOG…just a couple of you… Do you remember this ‘Mr. Condor’???

I kinda enjoy BB/TG’s blog entries, but his general demeaner about Airforce guns is that any modification is a bad modification. Unless it doesn’t void the warranty. Those are good mods. I just find myself chuckling that he’s still holding to the company line that “we built it right, anything else is degrading performance.” (My words, not his.) I can see where product liability issues inhibit Airforce from un-corking the guns, but to infer that every one modding their rifles is damaging them is laughable. On the other hand, perhaps his insistance that the rifles are good enough now is to keep people from encroaching on an un-released design that Airforce is working on. Companies often ham-string a product so they can release incremental upgrades over time, under the guise of newer and better. Planned obsolescence is a pox on modern industry. Perhaps Tom had a big hand in the design of the Condor and is emotionally invested in nobody altering his “baby”. Who knows, but he sure is adamant that we’re tearing up guns over here.
By the way, what kind of damage, if any, have any of you old hands seen happen to Airforce guns due to modding? The physics of a “stretched” frame due to a hammer mod defy me. I can’t see how the frame got elongated unless the muzzle end of the gun was imobilized while the hammer peened the aft end of the gun. Isaac Newton tells me that the whole gun will recoil under such a shock, not just the portion of the frame behind the shock. Sometimes I think the guy’s just trying to scare folks.
Tom/BB is responsible for hundreds of Condor owners receiving guns that did not work correctly. He always blamed the user and the users tank gauge. He lied through his teeth and I believe mislead AF as well to the situation. The problem with the Condor did not get fixed until after Gaylord left AF.
We exposed him for being a liar and I am sure he does not like it. He knew that the Condor Valve had a spring in it for .177 and not .22. If there was nothing wrong with the Condor valve as he claimed then I wonder why he had his replaced with the new valve?
Funny how the Quality Control improved at Airforce shortly after Gaylord left Airforce….LOL. He was always saying everything was fine, when in fact he was giving AF guns a super bad reputation. AF relied on him for repairs and input as an expert and he really did a lot of damage to them.
We are the ones that exposed him and his bullshit on several issues. And I am sure he does not appreciate me exposing him on the dangerous use of Pellgun Oil on PCP…..Yep, the so called expert was using Non Silicon Oil on PC’s and recommending it for years. And he had to post a retraction on his website. I bet he loves me for that one…

but it does frost my ass that those of us who got Condors early on were shit on for so many years. AF made things right with the new valve. I’ll give them that. The new valve is awesome.
What bothers me is the constant jabs against those who tried to correct the problem using ingenuity and those who paved the way for modders and tinkerers of AF guns. I’m sure there were some guns messed up. That happens…. but thats how we learn. All the tinkering with hammers that was done in the early days paid off.

S.O.B.!!! L.O.L. Your going to make me send my damn tank in and have them check to see which valve i have. I’m now convinced i have a “high flow valve” with a .177 spring. Just for shits and giggles please explain to me the differences between the characteristics of the old valve and the new one.
