the new .25 jsb king heavy
With no alterations to the edgun matador r3m standard straight from ed. Wat would be the maximum velocity this new pellet can do with out risking damage to it. ???

i have ordered 300 tins of JSB pellets,,,, 150 tins .25cal and 150 tins .22cal
my friends took about 130 tins ( 30 tins of .25cal only took from the 150 tins of the .25cals ) and i had already about 60 tins of the .22cals from my last year order ,,,
so, now i almost own 200 – 230 tins of JSB pellets ,,,,
the .22cals are really good and very accurate ,,,
the .25cals are not tested yet,,,because my .25cal matador is still on the way ,,maybe within next two weeks (God Willing) .. … … ..
I know that I can tune my R3 25 cal long up to shoot them at 880fps or higher. I’m thinking that I can get at least 45-50 regulated shots at 880fps.
When I get the Heavies in and get the gun tuned for them; I will post here in a new thread. Yarrh (Harry) posted on the Yellow a 100 meter, .500 inch, 5 shot group with the new heavies. He shot 3, 100 meter, 5 shot groups with the heavies and the .500 group was the best.
Harry shot the .500″, 100 meter group with his crappy FX Elite gun that he fitted a quality BSA 25 cal barrel to. Myself; I have a superior Edgun Matador that also has a quality BSA barrel that I fitted to it. The last time that I took the R3, 25 cal long to the range, my last 5 shot, 100 yard group measured .477″!
I stopped after that!
Harry also pushes all of his 25 cal JSB pellets thru a .2500″ Beeman sizer before he shoots them. I don’t have the Beeman sizer but: I do have 3, .243 Lee sizers on order and I can easily lap them out to .2500″. I will lap one of the Lee sizers out to .2500″ and then play with the other 2.

I’ve got 12, 300 count tins of the new 25 cal, 34.95 grain heavies on order. PA says that they will have them 7-10. Whenever they come in, I will get them 3 days later.

Hemn those tests by JSB were done with 25.4gr Kings not thew new 34gr
I’m sorry…are you asking maximum velocity before resulting in damage to the pellet or to the R3M? Referencing the pellet, the gun is not capable of shooting fast enough to damage it, even with owner tune up. The gun…it really is not a question of immediate damage but a question of wear and tear. More velocity=more stress on seals, regulator components, ie- valve stem, etc. If you need the velocity or if accuracy is improved at higher velocity, shoot away. You can always deal with wear and tear.
How do you know these were heavies? There is only that information:

And then in the comment there is information that the pellets were regular ones.
285 m/s is around 925fps if my math is right. So that Matador was probably tuned to get the speed up for the heavier pellet.
But that’s a really nice group for that range.

Generally speaking…there is no magic number that would answer your question. Too many variables, but for the average shooter who does target, plinking, pesting, and shooting the neighbor’s chickens…why not shoot it as it comes out of the box? That’s the way Ed designed it to be used.
If it’s a .22 caliber, use an 18 grain pellet of good quality. It will shoot plenty hard, and be accurate beyond your ability to hit something at any distance. If it’s a .25, use a 25 grain pellet. If it’s a .177 buy a box of name brand (JSB) that are 8 to 10 grains in weight, but select a weight and stick with it. If you can hear a “Crack!!!” when you shoot, the pellets are too light and going supersonic. Get heavier pellets because too fast and accuracy gets lousy.
If you must have a number, and own a chrony, then stick between 780 fps and 980 fps. You won’t go far wrong. For a long time 880 fps was considered “just right”. Be certain to use the same weight pellets all the time and your accuracy will stay consistent at whatever speed you choose.
Meanwhile, as I suggested, buy good pellets, stick with the same brand and weight, and just enjoy the gun as it is. It isn’t broke, so don’t try to fix it.

I’ve seen some numbers posted around the 733 fps mark, but you have to do the work to find out. :fishinghole:

Long story short, my hammer spring adjuster came lose and when I tightened it up I was shooting 25gn JSB around 971 fps. Instead of turning it down, I decided it was the perfect time to try out my new 33 gn JSB’s. My first test gave me 9 shots at 842.2 fps with a stdev of 5.8. I gave the hsa another half turn and after 3 strings of 18 shots, I’m getting a 870 avg, with a 4.4 stdev. I’ve had a low of 863 and high of 880. I could shoot 20 shots from 3000psi, but 2 mags (18 shots) is easier to remember. All 3 times the fps drops into the 850 range on shot 21.
So far they seem just as accurate as the 25 gn pellets at 18 yards (the only place I have to shoot right now is indoors). I hope these do well out to 75 yards, if so, they will be my new turkey pellet. The rest of the time, I think I’ll stick with the 25 gn. At 793 fps, they shoot fine out to 100 yards and I get 99 shots with a stdev of 5.5
One last note, the skirts are wider on the 33 gn pellets and they don’t push into the magazine just with my thumb. They look flush, but after 4 or 5 shots, they back out a little, letting the skirt catch and not advancing the mag. They’re just fine if you make sure to push skirt is all the way into the mag with a pen tip.
