Q:

The O ring trick

I believe it was Mr. Powderburner who recommended the o ring added to the top hat. Well I finally tried it and ended with a T/H setting of .087. With a 3000 p.s.i. fill and P/W on 4 I took 110 shots over the chrony with 21.1 gr. Kodiaks. Shots started in the 830’s and went as high as 864 f.p.s. but all these shots were between these 2 numbers. All I had to do was turn down the power-wheel 1 no. every 25 shots to keep the f.p.s. together as close as possible. Good for blowing up starlings at 33 f/p. After all those shots the tank was at 1900 p.s.i. Next want to try 25.4 JSB’s. Thanks Powderburner for that o ring trick as the shots are not to loud and I get lots of them.

Stock AF-Condor cal.22 with an oring size 3/8″ x 9/16″ offers 450 shots:

shot#001 = 217.26 m/s
shot#450 = 122.26 m/s
pellets = gamo match

Very nice range!!!

I was using these 2 years ago with the .22 barrel.

I was shooting kodiaks and JSB to the same POI with this setup, quite accurately I might add.

Once I installed the .25, I never needed to slow things down.

RiffRaff, did you notice that Powderburner has not been using heavies? He has posted a lot of targets showing great groups while tuning down the FPS of lighter pellets to get maximum accuracy.

I tried your idea of the fender washers but didn’t get any good grouping. The o-ring works the best for me but I can’t get enough time to sort out the best speed for my .177 pellets. Have you tried roll sorting to eliminate some of the fliers? Roll sorting sure shows that not all are created equal. EJs seem to be very inconsistent.

Phat the o ring size is 3/8”o.d. x 1/4” i.d. and I just slipped it on to the valve stem. The thickness is about .070 and the T/H is at .087 so fits right in. I’m sure there is still alot of ajustment left in the T/H.

George.

I used rubber fender washers with a .25 diameter hole. They stretch over, and are easier to remove than orings.

You can use a larger diameter one, and trim it so it has a handle sticking out. This makes it MUCH easier to remove.

The original post about it.

Nice. How many shots do you get with out turning the PW?

Going to have a little play with this tonight. Got loads of room for adjustmenton the tophat so thats not a problem. When looking at improving the transfer port on my ratty I picked up a good tip from crosman pistol forum, a member said use the oring from an adjustable ligher, tried it and it works a treat. Anyway back to this, the oring is nice and soft and I would say a perfect fit

some more, last target , top right group is 32 g. eunjins in the high 900’s , this is where they group the best for me. i have had them as high as 1175fps. but groups were in the 1 1/2” range. all at 50 yards

which is this one

there is allot of stuff you might find useful , just search my post, i had a mission to try and figure out how to run these rifle for a little while,i have been taking a break for a while, and just shooting but i will get back to experimenting sooner or later.

anyway i posted this stuff to try and help others, because these rifle can be Farely daunting at times.

Phat96,
Powderburner uses an o-ring that hangs slightly loose on the valve stem and has posted numerous great strings. I found one that just fits and I think helps prevent blow-by.

They can be stretched over the top hat but once you find out how easy it is to gently remove the valve stem, of the USA model, you’ll soon be polishing the valve stem and top hat (helps consistency and power).

Tatsumi,
I tried several different thickness and types of flat rubber washers and nothing worked as well as a rubber o-ring. Like Powderburner says, the o-ring holds up real well. Please experiment but I wouldn’t try hard o-rings or other brittle material. I even tried innertube patches, one to thin-two to thick. Powderburners theory of how an o-ring slows the valve strike and rebounds appears to explain why it works so well.
Power? The o-ring will reduce your power slightly but if you haven’t already maxed your top hat, just turn it out a little and you should be back where it worked for you.

I don’t believe Powderburner has tried heavies yet but I get 809-822 FPS from TT 12″ x .177 barrel shooting 16.1 grain EJs with 1900 PSI.

sounds good to me, but i like things nice and quiet 🙂

have you tried a flat rubber washer? or just the o-ring and how much power did you loose

What size “O” ring are you using? Are you removing the top hat then installing the “O” ring? Or are you “Stretching” the “O” ring over the top hat?
thanks

YES NOT SO LOUD IS WHAT I SAID. We cannot use frame extenders where I live so o ring cuts the power and tones down the muzzle blast.

😀 😀 😀 😀

Glad i could help

I am still a learnin about this big black BB gun too!! 😉

NOT SO LOUD magnumair ❗

There are those amongst us that can’t imagine an o-ring in the path of the valve top hat doing anything good. And if it don’t make sense they ain’t a gonna try it.

THEY DON’T NEED NO STINKING O-RINGS ❗
