The OFFICIAL Cricket Chrony thread

Hi Cricket folks! I’m starting a thread here so we can all share our chrony strings. I’m doing to this to see if my regulator is ‘acceptable’ as is or need to be tuned. This is for the sole purpose of seeing how consistance the regulator is and not how efficient. This mean I only care about the standard deviation and not shot count! What I’m looking for is at least a magazine of shots (14 for .22, 12 for .25). Also please tell us your starting pressure and if you know the ending pressure. You don’t have to shoot until you’re off the reg. If you know how to calculate the standard deviation and averages please include that. To keep it short, please list your string on a single line like this: 880, 882, 880, 878, 883, etc.

Who would like the honor to be the first to post their chrony string?

this morning woke up to find some air was leaked overnight…quite noticeable drop

I’m suspecting it’s the two orings on the regulator. Since I took it out and put it back in 3 times, the orings may have been damaged? They look fine, but I’ll replace them to see if that fix the leak. There are quite a resistance pushing the regulator in, and with the somewhat sharp burrs, who knows? Should I sand these burrs? I think everytime you remove the regulator you should just replace the orings as well…

My Cricket 22 cal standard shooting JSB 18 grain at 880 fps, at first got an SD of 7.48 with 4 mags about a 2 bar / shot efficiency.

Mines improved after 800 shots at that time the SD was about 2 and the average 880 fps with 4 mags.

The reg is still breaking in at 1120 shots now SD is 1.74 with 4 mags with 1.4 bars / shot efficiency. So far till now all I did was adjust the HST with Ernest Rowe methods he gave me.

that’s good to know it will get better. what I don’t understand is how the regulator “break in”. So if I opened up the regulator it has to be broken in all over again??

Could you tell me what HST method Ernest gave you and nobody else?

Not to be redundant but:
Break in is a general term and all guns need to some extent as a whole, from the barrel to the trigger. As for the Crickets anywhere from 500-2,000 shots the last I heard.

I would think the reg will continue to break in or seat in where it left off assuming it was not altered in anyway, like polishing it. But it was mention to you on one of your previous post here

And I believe Ernest answered how to tune the HST on one of your previous post here also

Good luck !

tbear, how many time did you have to fill it up and drain you’re tank? and out of a 88 cubic ft tank would you said you went through to get it adjusted?

I had to refill it 3 times. My 88cf tank was around 3700psi and it I think it dropped to 3100psi. Not too bad. I got some more chrony numbers coming in, but I’m trying to figure out the HST adjuster I got from WWAG. I’m trying to find out at what point is the spring at its maximum power. As you know, if you preload the spring pass a certain point it actually becomes weaker…once i figure this out I’ll share

turning 1/4 CCW increased fps from ~760 – 840

going to try now 1/8 more CCW to go to the magical 880, which if happens to work would be the advices given (and ignored)

But hey, it’s fun! i just love tickering with things, you learn more about your airguns this way.

Guess some guys learn the hard way….

It’s really standard practice to cock back the hammer on most airguns that are of this design

It takes pressure off the valve.

Did you cock the gun before filling?

Turning the regulator 1/2 CW has reduced the fps from ~880 to ~760…

turning it 1/4 CCW to see what happen next.

A little thing I learned when assembling/disassembling. When you fill the air up, DON”T have the breech installed yet. The valve will not seat (for some reason unknown to me) with the breech in place. I actually did this twice just to confirmed. I hope someone learn something…

Turning your reg down will affect your shot count giving u less shots wasting more air each shot also turning the valve too tight will loose u power

that made no sense at all

If you leave you Fill setup tethered and don’t bleed it off. just shut your tank off you can use that gauge to find out what its set at.

1900 psi is 131 bar, thats not extremely high. Im willing to bet by going 1/2 turn your gonna bring it down to around 100 bar or so.

I wanted to turn mine up, i went 1/2 turn and it went from 130ish bar to 160 bar.

most of the tunes I’ve seen and read about are right around 128 bar or so.

Do what u want… just trying to save you some time and air… but you already got your mind made up.

My baby cricket is only a few weeks old. However I shot over 600 rounds through it already.

My baby is now apart! Thanks Ernest for your easy to follow video! :8:

What I discovered…too much grease?? Could that also have affect the consistancy?

The valve stem part that has 7 holes was a little loose. I shake it and I can hear it rattle. So I turned it two full turns and now it’s quite tight.

I am going to do a full half turn CW though. The reason is I don’t want to waste too much air going 1/8 turn at a time…I think the reg is set at about 1900 psi right now…way too high I think. If I lowered it too much then I can just go up 1/8 until I reach the right pressure. Man i wish I had Ernest’s regulator pressure reader. Wish it can be borrow like a book lol.

How old is your Cricket ? How my shots fired through it so far ?

Yes, reg 1/2 turn is a bit much all at once.
