The "Almost Free" Talon

This is Yellow Ninjas old talon frame after he machined the scope rail off. I believe the idea was to mount a NV scope lower to the barrel.

YN sent me the frame after I sent him a tube for his RWS 52. He included the power wheel adjuster, and later sent me the pins for the trigger group.

I only had to buy the following parts: Springs, grips, trigger parts, floor plate and cross-bolt (grip mount bolt and nut). Total cost, $118.

The grip adapter was a pleasant surprise from JFK.

The weaver rail, Kobra sight was included when I bought my Condor. The bottle and WOKButt is from the Condor, shoots well with no further adjustment needed.

The shroud is all free, made from scrap materials. The barrel is the .22 I no longer use from the condor, perfect for this project.

All I had to do to make this frame work was remachine the top of the frame. YN had machined it flat, but not enough for me to mount the weaver rail. I had to take it down level with the accessory rail on top of the frame.

I then glued the rail with liquid aluminum. Before you laugh, its an aluminized epoxy we use at the carbon factory to repair tooling. You paint it on, oven cure it and its just like aluminum all over again, neat stuff.
After the oven cure, I drilled and tapped the frame, cleared the burrs from the inside and bolted it down.

After that, everything assembled like normal. I mounted the red dot to the rear so I can put the green laser in front of it. Might not need it though, havent tried to shoot red-dot at night.

This makes a super light and very quick to point/aim rifle. Its quite easy to hit plastic golf balls at 35 yards. Just put the dot on and shoot, easier than iron sights and much more accurate. The red dot design has NO parallax at any range. I love it on this rifle. I must have shot 300 pellets today, knocking wiffle balls every shot until they fell apart.

Its placing FTS in .75″ at 40 yards off the bench. I had to use a large black circle target to get the dot centered. Even with my old tired eyes, shooting with this dot is easy.

Shot 4 or 5 groups to set it up, then off to plinking I went. 😛
