Think I’m clipping..
I think I’m clipping my silencer. It’s a screw on weirach type and when fully tightend the groups are like that from a tight bored 12! When I loosen the silencer off the adaptor slightly It does get back to cloverleaf groups but It’s still praying on my mind that even If the pellets take a small deflection It will lead to sub-standard groupings. I took the silencer off and got 1 hole groupings at 25yds. The group was only 4 shots but I was pleased as I’ve been after accuracy like that for a long time from this rifle. So Is there anything else I can do to make absolutely sure It’s not clipping and If It Is how can I fix It?

Yep, it’s clipping all right. 🙁
I made a similar set up, with smaller diameter curlers, and used a non abrasive scotch bright that I picked up at a flee market. I added a few more washers in there as well. It is VERY quiet.
Took it Turkey hunting. Shot a Tom, and the other birds never knew I was any where around. They milled around old Fred for a few minutes then just walked off. 😀
weihrauch. There rated pritty highly but mine was never that good. Thinking about It, If every shot was clipping like that I’m not supprised It wasn’t reducing noise. I’d still like to try the spring In It and see what differance It makes.

Well I decided to strip the silencer down and It was pritty grubby as you can see from the pics. The white felt Is pritty grey from all the lead dust and I think I’ve found the cause of my clipping on this silencer 😆
I’ve never found this silencer much differnt from my empty bean can gunpower silencer so was having a think about different internals. My AA silencer Is very quiet and It looks like there’s a spring at the muzzle end of the silencer so I’m gonna try my stock talon mainspring In the end section of my HW silencer along with the haircurler and felt at the start of the silencer with some washers and o rings In between the two.
Woudl It matter about the configeration, eg; If I had the hair curler and felt In the first chamber or Is It worth putting the spring In first? Alos wondering about putting some thin scotchbrite on the inside of the spring and the amount of pressure the spring should be at. Any thoughts?
I’d of needed a big deep water trough 😆 I’m just In the process of sorting out a reg’d air tank but will be back trying to silencer the rifle once I have the reg’d tank working well 😉
What was the logun silencer YN? I’ve heard the QGS version Is pritty decent.
If you take it off and there is no problem with accuracy I’d say its 99% chance the silencer is clipping.
I had a Logun Silencer on the end of a AA410 shroud and it clipped. I drilled the hole out a bit larger and it fixed the problem and is still quiet.
Have you tried shooting into a water trough & checkig the pellets under a magnifying glass for unusual scuffing on one side?

I tried some o rings on the adaptor but TBH the groups seem bigger with the silencer on still even when It’s loosened! I shot some quick groups amoungst the rain, wind and sleet earlier and ALL the pellets shot without the silencer were touching. With the silencer there was a noticable difference. I’ll get some pics up after of the groups and If the weather Is half decent when I come home tomorrow I’ll get some groups rattled off.
Ribb – I’ll try that after see If I can see anything In the way. As for the silencer, I really don’t know. I always thogught they were a multifit for .22 and .177? Any ideas of the end cap hole size on any If they are different silencers for the different cals then I can measure mine and see what I have.
You might try some teflon tape to make it tighten up sooner or maybe a thin spacer to change where it stops when you screw it on so that it is in the clear position once it is tight…..
Thanks Jeff. Yes loosening It 1/4 of a turn helps but then what’s to stop It getting knocked whilst I’m out hunting and then I’ll be missing or worse wounding what I aim for. Even then I still can’t help that It could be taking a slight touch and widening the groups.

Two ideas:
(1) Take off the air tank and look though the bore (both ends). IF the hole though the muzzle device isn’t on center with the center of the bore, you’re clipping.
(2) Was that HW muzzle device made for a .177 and hyou’re using it on a .22?
The fix I hear is most effective is to turn your Moderator 1/4 turn, shoot a group, turn, shoot a group until you are back to the same accuracy as without the moderator….

Yeah, I think that may be why It wasn’t reducing the muzzle blast much as there was a impact, even If It Is a marginal deflection going on about 2 feet away from me 😆 I’ll be going down the hardwere store later to pick up some more washers to try the origional set up again and then my idea with the stock talon spring In.
Quick question – should I get the same diameter holes on the washers as was In the stock set up or buy a slightly larger hole to compensate for the clipping? Also If I go for the bigger hole will that mean It won’t be as effective as a washer with a smaller hole?
