Q:

Thinking of getting an air rifle…

Hi guys,

I’m thinking of getting myself a nice air rifle when I reach U.S
My only aim is to get an rifle as accurate as possible, and I’m getting mad :banghead:

Now as I have said…I’m only looking for accuracy and nothing more.
ranges from 50 yards, 100 yards and even possibly 150 yards.

So I have done a bit of research and found that these guns are accurate:

1) AZ Theoben BT500 “Ben Taylor tuned” .40 CTC 55 yards
2) Daystate Airwolf
3) BSA Hornet .25 John Bowkett which “Yrrah” has.
4) FX Royale 400
5) Daystate Airranger

Now those guns are high $$$ but hey you get what you paid for right?

Now I believe that “Yrrah’s” BSA Hornet is the most accurate of those three…as the groups which he got from 50 yards “killed a fly!” and 225 yards a 2.16 inches 3 shot group and at 300 yards a 3.141 inches 3 shot group is mind blowing…Now does anyone know what he had done to his Hornet .25? as I can’t find John Bowkett website..

One last thing which has got me thinking is that one user by the name of “USMCShooter” tried his .25 Marauder which he says that it’s mildly tuned done 5 shot group at 100 yards and this was his amazing results!

He also believes that he could get his rifle grouping on par with Yarrh’s hornet once he tunes it properly and gets some parts from Greg Davis..
and I have read that there are aftermarket regulators as well for the Mrods to get a consistency which makes up for the accuracy…

So guys, which route do think is the best and mentally right to take to get a good ctc rifle at 100 yards?

Sorry for my english… 😀

When you are comparing guns of that quality, you will not see an appreciable difference in accuracy in any of them to be honest. With all those you’ve mentioned, they are going to far outshoot you.

Pick the one that you feel most comfortable with because in the end, it’s going to be the most user ergonomic gun that gives YOU the best accuracy.

Thanks Hoot and oldgoat for your replies.

I may think that the Airwolf MCT has won my heart for now let see what happens 😀

Large amounts of shots
Good quality
Electronic pressure sensors helps the pellet to travel with not very much difference in FPS
Electronic trigger is also sweet 🙂

All those will make the group tighter I suppose 🙄

so it’s either this or the Theoben BT500 which is also available at AoA.

Hoot,

Real bummer on the Royal, I was considering one in 25, and have asked on the yellow if it is better than the 400.

Prescisionairguns says the 510 is available in a 25 or else he had one rebarreled.

But things are not looking good for future owners of Edguns, that is for sure.

Be careful with this one. I was considering it as a possible “get by” rifle until next Fall when the Edgun R3 is available.

The owner of Pomona Air Guns has stopped carrying the FX Royal because he said he was getting mixed reports on its performance and workings. Shame. I was strongly inclined that direction.

Google some “customer reviews” on various models and see what various owners have to say. I did that for the FX and was really surprised what the “400” owners had to say.

It’s a brutal world out there. You can spend mega-bucks and NOT get what you want, nor even be assured you are buying quality.

Personally, I’m going with an AA 510 Carbine. Relatively inexpensive, been around forever, proven performer, been improved over the AA 410, and customer reviews are great. They have a full sized model you might consider, but it’s not regulated.

All things said….I’ve never been happy with anything after I shot my Edgun. Wherever I looked down that scope, a hole appeared at the intersection of the crosshairs. That kind of magic isn’t available over the counter. You would probably very much like the Edgun R3 Long in .25 caliber. It’s not cheap. Real quality never is.

Hoot 😯

Kawasaki has a .22 cal long version Edgun Matador that he has posted .880″ 5 shot 128 yard groups with!

Ed is bringing out an improved version, R3, that is susposed to be MORE accurate! 😯

Ed is currently having problems getting the guns out of Russia, to say the least! Ed says that he will start shipping guns this Sept.

A whole bunch of us are waiting!

I have a Royale 400 .22. Both of my Matadors shoot at least as well as it does and they are a lot shorter. I like bulpups.

Good luck getting a tuned air gun from England. The laws make it almost impossible to have one shipped to the US. I have tried.

The Airwolf looks good, I would love to see it go up against an Edgun.

quote ssshooter:

Get a 22WMR or 17HMR… you can own either for $500 and they shoot to 150 yards 😆

Sorry I want to get an air rifle 🙂

I really like the .17 HMR though…nasty little things 😛

My favorite rifles for the .17 HMR is the Model 97D and the Anshutz 😆
