This bird doesn’t sing, it spits pellet
I have been leeching a lot of information from this forum, so its time to contribute. This is the first air rifle that I m satisfied within a week of owning it, past air rifle is Crosman 760 pumper, RWS 34 Compact, Benjamin Discovery w/BnM Multishot breech. The current air rifle that I have in the stable is Benjamin PRod in Rapid bullpup stock, SPA P12 with regulator, Flying Dragon PCP. And I m a NOVICE SHOOTER.
First and foremost, the pic.
It is wearing Hawke Sidewinder Tac 30 6.5-20x 42mm. Prior to this shooting, there is no modification to the gun beside pulling patches through the barrel, tighten a few screws and dress it up in carbon fiber vinyl. So I got to my friend house and this is the view of my shooting range.
The trap box is right in the middle, if u can see the tree in the middle of the picture, and there is a grey trap box underneath it.
Cut the chase, this is the result I got. Its a 7 shot group, mag has 14 pellets. So here it is.

I need input on those groups along with the data. It looks like the regulator is not doing the job. I started very high and progressively dropping in speed. Or the regulator is set too high. With P12 regulator, it keeps the speed in a certain field then drop drastically when the pressure goes below the regulator.
On the HST or HSTA(can somebody clarify if those two have the same meaning), I have it flush with the breech, unlike most or majority of rifles, when you turn it clockwise, it supposes to put more tension on preload spring thus increases the fps. On hummingbird, CW=decrease fps, here is the 3 shots on different preload.

But if I turn it counter clockwise out of the breech, speed keeps dropping again.
Last, the air blowing back out of the breech is probably because I didn’t close the bolt all the way after cocking it.

:rofl: Mike I see you got my point. Yes time change really sucks. Heading out tomorrow 3 hour drive to do some squirrel hunting. The little red ones and the fox squirrels, this woods is loaded with them.

There’s a remedy for that Mike.
Just a heads’-up it seems that reseating the barrel with the magazine in place is not a sure-fire cure. I’m getting some intermittent blowby again. Peter says the barrel has recessed areas to hold the barrel in place. So now i’m back to square 1, but at least it’s not as bad as before. So far. Also I’m now getting poor accuracy. No more one-hole wonders but a scattered grouping. I’ve informed Peter.

Gus, Ernest helped me sort out the blowby to the face. It’s not because I didn’t properly close the bolt. My barrel was not properly seated, My blowby was so great it stung me. The fix is to:
* remove the shroud, exposing the muzzle of the barrel
* insert a magazine
* loosen the barrel screws
* lightly tap the end of the barrel (safety on, unloaded and with the empty magazine in place, mind you)
* tighten the barrel screws
* test fire.
With luck you will not see the fps drop (due to air loss past the breech end of the barrel); not feel the blowby on your face. That was the case for me. Like I said, the blowby from the breech stung me. It was high pressure air to the face, not a puf fof air like others report. I hope this helps.

I have no concern about the blowback. I knew I fixed it. I prob didn’t fully close the bolt. One thing about the blowback, whenever it occurs, it does shoot the pellet at lower fps than supposed to be and when you cock the rifle again, it will not index the to the next pellet. So second shot after blowback is always a dry fire. No buyer remorse on this gun at all, love the front cocking, the whole gun package looks handsome. And trigger is amazing, light first stage, medium second stage and breaks clean. Thanks for the reply Ernest.

Look like the reg is working, the reg is set around 123 to 125b so don’t let it go off the reg—works more consistent when the reg always regulating. I had to cut two coil on my HS–its to long to get the peck performance.
Springs has a rainbow affect, when over compress it has no room to expand so it has a weaker affect —same thing when not enough compression so you have to find the peck of the rainbow, it’s better when almost at the top but not over.
if bolt left open or 1/4 open the hammer will hit the cocking lever in the action–when this happen the hammer will not open the firing valve—you will hear a hard chick and the cocking handle will move forward a little.
So I would think its has a blow back issue that require more adjustment–and again can’t really say till I see all the check point on the blow back.
Mine has none over 1K after I made my final adjustment. no blow back no puff of air at all. Have notice there is so many ways that will make it blow back. KG should fix the blow back issue, not everybody has the knowledge to fix or not willing to do so paying so much $$$$

I picked off a squirrel at about 60 yards with the .177 Baby Cricket well before dark and several others barked at me from near by but hidden locations and could not get a bead on them. I also had a nice 8 point deer at the corn behind my house. He knows he is safe. 😉
So have they worked out all of the bugs on these Birds? It’s hard to believe something can top my Compact Cricket with the skeleton stock.
