Q:

This guy ate all my plums…so I shot him.

He ate all my plums and when he goes for my Asian pears. That’s when I draw the line and send him to squirrel haven @40y right on the neck. I even let him plays with my Cricket at one point.

Now that’s what I’m talking about, 2-3 with one shot. It’s like bowling with a 52 gr hollow point…………..

Like my 17 HMR. Approx. 3/4 ” at 100 yards with the 20 gr bullets but a lot better range.

I just got back from the carnage in North Dakota. The real surprise was how well that new 17 WSM rimfire performed. With a slight wind at my back I shots dogs out to about 350 yards with it just to see if I could. The little 20 gr pills at 3000 fps did amazingly well. You can watch your own shots w/o any issue and because there is no kick to speak of.

What kind of grouping are you getting from your 17 WSM?

Awny

:biggrinn: I frequently shot four to five young dogs out of the same hole. I got a couple for two for one shots – and waited for some to line up. 😆 We had an owl that would swoop in if they were still wiggling.

I used to go July and Aug but man was it hot, 100-118 degrees. Now we go early June and temps around 75-90, PLUS the young dogs are out and boy are they stupid…..BLAM!!!!!!!!!!!

It’s always been the warmer and sunnier it is the better you’ll do. Dogs don’t like cloudy days, can’t see the shadow from flying predators. Lots of eagles and their always looking for a treat.

Does it get a bit toasty out there this late? Our first day was a little warm but the dogs loved it.

Nice Coda. It would be great to do that once in a life time.

Eelect, I just got off the phone with the ranchers, their waiting for me to show up. LOTS of dogs they said.
This is my 45th year going out to the same ranches. I can’t wait to get there……..Leaving Sat morning.

Its real fun. That was my 6th escapade with the little sod poodles. The cattle and horse ranchers are really grateful when you thin the towns down a little. We shot on a large horse ranch that was loaded with them end-to-end and a few cattle ranches.

Looks like he is trying to “squirrel” your Cricket away.

Looks like he almost got the draw on you…

A Man has to draw the line somewhere .
