Q:

Thoughts on a power setup…

i have a Condor SS, fully modded with TT parts…

Barrel is lapped, and polished by tony,
stock hammer spring
Heavy hammer with slap mod from TT
QCTH from TT
full carbon fiber tank, with custom valve and tank adapter from TT.

at 2400 psi fill, i get 32-35 shots, at 51 fpe, about 825 fps shooting 33.95 grain jsb’s… no insert, with an o ring under top hat. If i cranked the fill pressure up, do you think, if i shot at 3400 psi or so (copying onebadj) and using an insert, i could get more power with the same shot count, or similar?

waiting for my new chronograph to come in, as my old one met a horrible fate against hte tire of my blazer… long story.

the .22 barrel came in few days ago, and Ma-Nature has had other plans than me shooting……

Today i was finally able to get in the back yard and do some chrony testing!

14.3 CPHP. Large restrictor in QCTH, power wheel on 1-11 (1 line on frame, 11 line on wheel), so basically 1 and 3/4. clipped one coil off hammer spring, bent and polished end. slap mod heavy hammer, full TT valve, tank adapter, and carbon fiber tank. O ring under top hat.

2400 psi starting fill, about 1900 psi ending fill

this string is “backwards” as in the first shot, is the last 894, and the last actual fired shot, is the first in the string the 891, gotta love prochrono digital and the backwards viewing of shots…. . a 904 fps avg, right at 26 fpe. 40 shots. i can live with that! 26 fpe is plenty for all small game hunting, up to and including fox.

Well i’m using a green HNBR AC o ring from a car…. not a washer. i’ll take a chrony string as soon as the weather clears. i’ll get 32-35 shots before it starts dropping off, but my rifle is de tuned pretety substantially. 2400 psi fill, lapped barrel, tt top hat, tt valve, tt tank adapter, tt tank tt hammer, the hammer spring is a stock spring, with one coil clipped off, end bent and polished, to give less preload at low power wheel settings. 33.95 grain JSB at 815-825-815 with most shots hovering around 820. some strings give me 31/32 shots, others give me 35/36. so its pretty nice!

However, Pennsylvania just passed legislation allowing airguns for hunting… yet the caveat to this… .177 or .22 only. so i ordered a .22 barrel, and picked up some 14.3 CPHP’s, and i’ll blast them allong at 900-925 fps, for as many shots as i can muster. see what happens. I’d really like to use the similar fill pressure, and get 40+ shots per the same settings. i’m wondering if i will have to restrict the top hat, to keep velocity smooth, or if the wide open top hat may be too much for the .22 barrel… I’ve never played with a TTQCTH in any caliber other than .25. if i can run large restrictor and get 900 fps i’ll be happy! i want to keep initial fill pressure as low as possible, to extend my SCBA tank refill. hand pumping to 2400 psi is pretty nice as well.

Thanks for the input, as soon as the new barrel gets here, i’ll post again. I’ll also go shoot 4 or 5 strings, start to finish, and let you guys see the real numbers. It took a LOT of fine tuning to get here. thanks!

Yeap, bump up the pressure and restricted it with the insert you can get a ton of shots at that power range. Thats what i do when i rig up the condor for rats. How thick of a washer are you running under the top hat? Also what kind of power are you looking for?

That is a lot of shots from 2400psi, would love to see the chrony string.
