Tinker or Not to Tinker?
O.K.! so looking for the real deal from those of you who started from scratch. I got the talon ss (haven’t even fired it just yet for testing) and I’ve got the wicked fat nasty tinker bug buzzin in my brain. OH Yes, searching the web, finding doohickies for this, tophat for that, twisty twist on this and… Viola! I’ve tinkered myself an efficient, yet powerhungry & tack-driving monster of a .22!
Although not so much. How hard is it to do your own mods? I do like to tinker but at the same time I don’t want to have my gun down for a week because I “Mistinkered” my way into frustration 👿 . Plus I don’t have a chrony- yet. What can I do, or what would you guys recommend doing to maybe smoothe it out a little with tools and things you would have in the garage or some items that might be drop in replacements I could order off the internet that are easy to install? Or should I just leave the damn thing alone for right now? I can’t really send it off to have anything done for a while because of the initial costs for everything. Plus my wife would cut my legs off I spent any more money right now on my “BB Gun” (she doesn’t understand fellas..). I’ve got the 18in barrel on it right now and I’m waiting for the 1/4 adapter to get here so I can fill up the tank and give the gun a test fire and then sight her in. So, My friends- what say you ❓

my advise leave it alone for now then see what you want out of it later on. if you want to mod it you can try Don G he does some good work and it does not empty out your piggy bank. but for now just enjoy it and see what things you would like to improve on it later on

If you are happy with your gun the way it is, and its working fine. Leave it alone.

I think they are fine right out of the box. The only thing I have done is change barrels, and put washers in the factory shroud. The trigger on mine is just fine. I also know that if I get bored with it, I can sell it faster than some tinkered with rifle. And I can take off the goofy looking electrical tape whenever the fit hit’s me.

If you cant help yourself and you have a reasonable amount of tinkering skill and knowledge, tinker away.
Be aware though, it never ends once you start tinkering.
My advice, do not screw with it if it shoots well. You may spend a while getting it back to where it was.
If you do start messing around with it, do ONE little thing at a time and shoot enough to determine if that one adjustment affected anything.

Right now I’d like to tinker with the weather…. get myself two days of sun and 70 degrees so I could actually go outside and shoot the sunnamabitchin’ gun. Hanging the muzzle out the doorwall to shoot has lost it’s attraction. 😆
Stinkin’ Michigan winter…. Cabin Fever is gonna be a real drag this year, I’ll tell ya what…
But to answer your question, seeing as I’ve “been there, done that”, get comfortable with what you’ve got so far… shoot the hell out of it and have fun. Over time, you’ll discover what you want and need as far as what you primarily use it for. Trying to tweak it to death right out of the box is fun from a tinkerer’s perspective, but can be a real money pit in the long run. 😉

Yeah fellas, I think I will shoot it stock for a while to get a feel for the gun. Then after a while I’ll see how I feel I guess. You guys with stock guns out there still pretty happy with how the talon ss shoots/handles? I’m especially curious for those of you who may have swapped barrels from the 12in to the 18in. I’m starting off with the 18in. I was going to stick the 12in barrel on there but when I bougt it I thought the cap to the 12in barrel was in the package- well apparently not. Oh well, Ill just hang with the 18in barrel and see what kind of damage I can do for now.
