Q:

To all those who pump with your hand…..

How many strokes does it take you before you ….. Oh wait, I’m talking about air pumps to fill your bottle… 😆 😆 😆

Bought a Hill pump yesterday off the yellow. I’ve got 3 SCBA tanks but both dive shops recently closed and all I’ve got left is the fire dept and it’s a pain in the ass for them to re-adjust their compressor from their 2260 fill to my 4500 fill on my tanks.

I’ve got it down to where I fill the rifle bottle to 3000psi and shoot 25 pellets off a sleeve I keep on my tank. When I’ve shot those 25, I know my tank volume is down to around 2550psi, which means I top back off with 450psi.

For those who use hand pumps, can anyone give me a rough idea of how many pumps I’m looking at to top off from 2550 to 3000 ? As I understand it, you’re only supposed to use the pump for 5 mins then let it cool for 15 mins …. Will I get a tank topped off in that 5 minute period is what I guess I’m asking……..

Thanks

Triggerman, I am pretty sure that Airguns Of Arizona has a rebuild kit for the
Hill pump… I bought one a year or so ago….

Gee, I don’t know about maintenance on the Hill pump yet. The drypack can be added to the Hill pump. I got mine seperate and the instructions werefor 3 different models. Parts were included for all of them. The Hill pump instructions say to pump 40 or ?50 strokes and open the bleed valve to release the pressure and bleed off the moisture. Apparently moisture is the enemy of the o-rings. With the dry pack it isn’t necessary to bleed off the moisture. I don’t remember if they reccomend stopping after a number of strokes or not. 60 is enough for me and I take a 5-10 minute brake, and then don’t have to do the 12-15 strokes to getback to where I left off. I bought the rebuild kit with my pump as I don’t care to wait for warranty repairs and shipping. The 2nd and 3rd repair (replacement) of my af pump took several weeks. My Hill pump hasn’thad a problem.
If at the beginning of either stroke you you feel a little vibration? jirkyness it’s probably the o-rings rolling over unevenly. That’s an indication of maybe going to fast or not pausing enough at the end of each stroke. If your relative humidity is real low, like the desert SW, you probably could get by without the dry pack.

What about these dry pacs ? This pump I bought was used, had only filled his gun 8 times and he decided to go SCBA. Are they serviceable and if so, what kind of maintenance needs to be done to the pac as well as the whole pump while I’m asking…. Thanks

Takes me a little over 120 with the Hill pump. I pause around 60 to let myself cool down. With the dry pack I think I could get it all at once.

take me 10-13 pumps per 100 PSI to top off

Triggerman…I suppose you already know about “cascading” your tanks, right??? Get a lot more usage if you do it that way..learned it from Joe Brancato the CSBA air tank guy…..

Absolutely yes!
You will have no problem topping off from 2550psi to 3000psi in less then 5 min. I do it from 2100 to 3000 all the time.

Be careful TM, there are sickos who would take you up on that one 😯

Initially, I thought that I had lost my mind buying my compressor. But that has gone away and now I am just feeling spoiled 😉

Yeah, I read your post when you put that one up Steve and I’d still give my 2 front teeth and left nut for one…..

Once you buy one of these TM, you’ll never look back! 😀

Yes you should be able to. It takes around 100-120 pumps from my pump going from 0 to whats left in the tank and adding 450psi.

I have an AF pump and it will do 500psi and some in less than five, I just have to be careful of my back. 😉 😆
