Todays SamYang 909 Sight-In Shooting EPP/UG’s
Well it’s been awhile since I’ve done much airgun shooting, and I didn’t get to hunt much at all last fur season. So I am going to get an earlier start than usual on the coyotes in preparation for the upcoming fur season this year.
Went out to one of the sheep ranches today to sight-in at 50 yards. My Zeiss Conquest has been transplanted to a PB for now (gotta prioritize the nice optics towards the big game-legal rifle), so I re-mounted my cheapo KonusPro fixed 4X once again on the 909.
This KonusPro has always held it’s zero well, but the adjustments can make sighting-in a real pain. Thank goodness there was 3000psi left in my CF Tank (thanks to Willie!) to help me and my trusty HillPump out with the workload…… no way would I have gotten zero’d in the short time I had to shoot today without that air in the CF Tank.
I seem to have misplaced my steady stix, and didn’t want to use the mono-pod to site-in since it had been awhile since I’ve shot this rifle. So I shot prone using the toolbox as a rest today. Here is a group I shot before zeroing to be sure everything was as it should be……using the un-sized (.456) EPP/UG’s I got from Tom Buchanon/Mule Burro Corral awhile back. I forgot to bring a new cardboard box for target backing….this box was already pretty shot-up. I shot four shots off of a fill a few times today while zero’ing, but most were 3 shots per fill. I’m not positive how many shots this one is……it looks like four shots, but it may actually be three so I’m calling it three shots.

Gun was working as it should, so I went to work getting it zero’d in. By the time that FINALLY happened (those KonusPro adjustments are confusing, let alone not so repeatable), I only had four or five .456’s left. I went thru my toolbox and found that I had an entire styrofoam tray of .454 EPP/UG’s I had forgotten was in there. So I shot a couple of groups with these .454 EPP/UG’s before I had to leave.

Not bad for not having shot the rifle in awhile. Good to go hunting with confidence I’d say!
Apparently I mis-understood the landowner awhile back when I asked about hunting predators on his property. I actually asked specifically if I could hunt Bobcat and he said “no”. I forgot to ask about the coyotes, though. Got that cleared-up today….he says I am free to hunt coyotes there, and it is a great spot for a coyote stand (entire area is private property)!
Gonna have to bring the camera, too. I can’t help but shoot a Bobcat on sight with SOMETHING!
