Q:

Tony Shroud Internals?

So what is it that makes the Tony shrouds so superior to others? Anyone got pics of the internal baffeling he does?

Well responded Walt 😉

I tend to have the time and not the money so I’ll try and do what I can – But there is a lot out there I have to bite the bullet and buy rather than make.

Walt, I know what you mean!!! I would love to own a Lovett Knife. But I can’t afford the time!!

Yellow, I wish I had the time to do everything I wanted to. But I’ve got so many things going through my head at any one time, sometimes there isn’t time to even write them down. I try to remember the more significant ones, but there are so many that just don’t make it to paper, even. And, there’s my kids… every time I have to sequester myself away in the shop in order to complete an important project, I feel guilty stealing time away from them. They are very young and very labor intensive at this stage of their lives.

I have to go through so many things and discard ones that I know I will never 1) have a serious use for 2) are too expensive to produce, or 3) will take too much time to make or develop.

My workbench is littered with literally dozens of projects that I have finished, tested, and discarded for various reasons, either because the principles that I thought the new design would bring did not function up to my expectations, or were too complex or expensive to produce, or whatever. I’ve cannibalized some of these to re-use some parts, but by and large, there are piles of them. All in the name of experimentation. Some have worked stupendously well. Others, a few, have been failures. You can’t win them all. One thing has become clear to me over the years, though; I don’t have the time to do everything I want. So, I’m in the same boat as everyone else; if there’s something nice I see, I buy it. Not because I can’t make one; right now, usually it is because I don’t have the TIME to make one. If it will take me 2 weeks of spare time to execute a design that functions similarly to something I can buy for a couple hundred bucks, I’ll usually buy the ready made product. It’s simple; my time is worth more than that.

One wonder’s why you’d need to buy a shroud knowing what you know about silencer design and having a metal shop and the abilities to use it at your disposal Walt.

No, it’s not. The Tony shroud I have uses just plain jane cupped baffles. The ones at the rear have 4 small holes in the circumference to allow some bleeding of pressure forward into the next baffle space, which I don’t understand. These holes would tend to make it less efficient, if you ask me. But it’s not my design, so I say no more about it.

What I will say, is that this type of design is vietnamese-war era. Do some research and you’ll find modern design has come a long way since.

Its not rocket science

good luck with that 😛

and a few weeks lead time I presume…

Ok, who has a borescope ).

If you are curious as to the internals of suppressors, online searching can find you the patent info on lots of them. I think somebody posted a link here once to that effect as well.

I think that is his best kept secret… 😆 But, not going to hacksaw mine in half just yet in order to find out what makes it tick either. I reckon if he wanted them to come apart, he would have designed them to come apart.
