Q:

took apart my condor to clean ..

and i decided to find a way to make the bushings tight in the frame. they were really under sized.so i tried tape, that was a fail .as i pushed the bushing in the frame the tape slid off.then i remembered reading somewhere that some used clear nail polish.i put several coats on the bushings, then let it dry.what a difference i reallllly had to push in the barrel and there is no wobble.now i just got to wait to get out of staten island to try it out and test it to if it helped any. another thing i think airforce should maybe make the bushings a little longer, think that would make it more ridgid.but later down the line i was thinking of getting a one piece bushing made up that would also take up the space of the power wheel,,since my condor is regged the power wheel does crap.

Nice Doug!!!

“One piece bushings are a problem to make because it has to be 4″ minimum. Try finding a boring bar that will bore that small that deep.
Cedric’s barrel measures .562″ so I used a really good 9/16″ drill which is .5625”.

Have you considered using a gun drill to drill the bushing?

I don’t know… What if the bushings were attached/pressed/epoxied to the barrel and had orings on the outside and NO set screws?

I don’t know shit but the most accurate gun I have is a sub-caliber insert in a larger smoothbore barrel and it’s only o-rings that center it….

Of course, that idea probably forces another invention regarding barrel retention on this particular style gun.

I’ve seen that too.

But as Doug said, that’s not a fix or at least isn’t as solid as metal on metal.

Orings have GIVE and they also dry out over time.

The least amount of orings in a gun the better i feel….. 😆

I put o rings on them also. But that is not a fix for a loose fitting bushing. Yes it will tighten it up if you machine it so the o ring is larger then the bushing.

This is a bandaid because the barrel is not going to be centered as soon as you tighten the set scews. Yes it will fit tight but still can be pushed when tightened.

On my .257 the bushings are like 1.30″ long because my barrel is .557″ and I can only bore 3″ that size right now. I’m looking into getting a boring bar that can fit in .500″ hole and bore 4″.

It only takes money 😀

SOMEWHERE 😯 on TAG I saw a set of bushings that someone had machined grooves and installed o-rings on the circumfrence of the bushings.

Any thoughts on making this mod? 😕

Benne,

I forgot the EXACT dimension but, its basically as long as the ORIGINAL 2 BUSHINGS that are already on the barrel end to end. And i asked Doug for a little extra length too up front toward the muzzle end of the frame.

But, i wanted to keep the power wheel so it could not be too long on the breech end.

If you wanna get rid of the PW, then you or a machinist would simply have to figure out how long to make it to take up the PW space also. But then of course, everything in the spring combo along with the valve would have to be JUST RIGHT to get the gun to fire from a full fill. A couple of ways to do it but, its time consuming to do it that way.

So i just told Doug to K.I.S.S. LOL! Dougs gonna kick my ass for that one

Oh sweet. So just one busing for the barrel? How long is it?

Yep, the frame and bushing tolerances are ALL OVER THE PLACE in these guns including the latest ones from 2012. Don’t know about the NEW 2013 ones but i’m almost certain it will be the same issues as Airforces extrusion process probably has not evolve as of late.

But in my RISE OF THE TALONDOR post, i had Doug or DYOTAT100 make me a custom sized and really tight fitting “1 Piece” bushing from a high grade of aluminum (6061). Works like a charm. The bushing is also TIGHT FITTING to the custom barrel also. The longer the bushing the better but, your mainspring will have to be custom fitted also. FYI

lol thanks, i think next ill try a few coats on the inside of the bushing and get that somewhat centered on the barrel.

Your welcome 😀
