Top hat removal
I am planning to remove the entire top hat (and stem) out of my Hi-flow valve to polish it. I have searched the forum but replacing the Hi-flow top hat with the stem is not clear to me.
So please tell me if this is correct:
1)I place two “screw drivers” covered with soft tape face to face and slowly push the top hat up and out. This is done WHILE the tank is pressurized.
2)Once the entire thing comes out, to replace it, do i just push it back in and dry fire it? Is this easy to do because i read something about a small o ring making it harder to do and could get damaged but i am not sure if the post was talking about the o ring between the top hat and stem(which i am touching). So are there any orings involved when taking out the entire top hat?

ok so took it out, was a piece of cake. Polished it and put it back in!
Put just a slight film of diver’s grease (dive shop) on the stem where it will contact the O ring in the valve.
Install the stem firmly in the valve being careful not to put your thumb or finger over the opening of the tophat. Hate to see you blow the skin off of your digit. 😯
Note where your Hammer Spring Preload Adjuster (aka power wheel) is set. Crank the power wheel down as far as it will go.
Install the bottle. Dry fire four or five times.
Return your Hammer Spring Preload Adjuster back to it’s original setting.
Good to go. 😀
Ok thanks for the heads up i’ll find something plastic to get it out!
My question is, is it easy to get it back in without damaging any orings or anything else??
I have a automotive door panel removal tool made in plastic. Won’t scratch the top hat stem.

BE CAREFUL AND NOT SCRATCH THE STEM IF YOU USE A METAL ONE.
