Q:

Top Hat Setting

Going to show my lack on AF knowledge here 😳 but how’s a guy going to learn. I have read here about setting the top hat at say .o85 or .350 (not real figures) where are you getting the figures? Back of top hat to air tank….top hat to breech….. ❓
I’m slow but getting there figuring out these rifles. Then there this o-ring thing around, under, behind the top hat what goes with this mod?
Thanks for allowing me into this zoo…. 😀

When the hammer is cocked, close the breech, and it should rest against the too hat. If there is play then you need to move the TH towards the breech. It’s not scientific but it will prevent a light strike and low velocity shot.

once you find the spot, lock it down with a dab of blue lock-tite, set screwa too, I could not get mine to stay tight, only the blue ,not the red

Some free advice. Write down where it’s at before you adjust it. Use feeler gauges to get accurate readings. Use a drill bit that fits tightly inside the valve to prevent denting it. Depending on your goals, try .070. HTH.

1oldguy2 – good to see there are at least two AF rifles in Oklahoma. Don’t let ’em pick on ya just ’cause where your from; I got your back.

Give us a little info on what your equipment is and we’ll try to get you a starting set up.

measurement is between tophat and brass retainer. o-ring goes in the same place. stretch it over the tophat so that it rides under the tophat itself. use the thinnest o-ring you can.
