Tophat adjustment….
I moved my tophat forward to take up the slack between the Tophat and the breech….What will that do powerwise and can I adjust the Power Wheel to compensate for any changes?

Read the Mac1 post on the yellow. Tim knows what he’s doing.
Be very careful when tightening the T.H. set screws. I damaged/dented the inside of my valve messing with different settings.
Ok. I checked….I am set at .085 and I have .04 slack between the Tophat and the breech seal….Is there any way to tighten that up?
Conventional wisdom seems to say that the TH should be adjusted to about .080 – .085, at least as a starting “default” point. A $4 set of feeler gauges from the auto parts store will help you do the trick accurately.
That’s where I put mine for now, at least until I get motivated enough to find a chrony.
But yeah, a chrony is a must if you want to fine-tune it any further than that.
Thanks rob3dr. I am not sure how efficient it was or wasn’t before…I had a lot of slack (the width of the TH set screw) between the Tophat and the breech and there was a lot of movement of the breech when I fired it…The frame was getting chewed up from the cocking knob banging against it. I check my Condor that has been tony tuned and it had zero slack. So should I adjust the tophat to get rid of the slack or no?
unless you have a chrony, the best advice is to treat the tophat like a sore peter and dont screw with it.
Just a very minor adjustment on the tophat can result in drastic velocity changes. You may be able to compensate some with the PW, but it’s likely your gun will lose efficiency.
