Q:

Trajectory, Velocity, Energy Charts

I’ve compiled some data on the talon from various sources and put it into charts. No data for intermediate and ending values is available, so I used data from other pcp rifles shooting 14.3 grain pellets with averaging and exponential smoothing.

Let me know if you have data that says otherwise. I’m looking for chronograph data at ten yard intervals out to 80 yards -if you want to shoot through your chrony at that distance.

The charts are at the following URL: http://www.pdfhost.net/index.php?Action=Download&File=0c6e5e877d426846e220a07c4171aec6

That’s good to hear dollarhunt.

I once read that the dimples in golf balls help reduce drag. The small dimple in the nose of the CPHP may do something similar.

I can’t convince anyone to shoot through their chronographs at distance. A person could hide it behind a couple of bricks to protect the body, and shoot over it out to 50 yards.

With that information we could figure out exactly how much energy is deliverd at 50 yards.

put a new 18″ barrel on my Talon SS last weekend and re-sighted. had it about dead on @25 yds, then moved back to 50 yds. just like your chart shows, i was damn near dead on there too!!! amazed me. i was using CPHP’S like you. thanks for the chart. now i really don’t need to waste a lot of effort checking intermediate distances. groups were under 1/2 in. at 25 yds and about 3/4 in. at 50. gun is definitely more accurate than i am!!

Anybody, let me know what velocities the talon produces at each 10 yard interval, and I’ll create a more accurate chart for both velocity and energy.

The drop in velocity is not a perfect linear regression like the model shows, but that’s as good as it gets without chronogragh data specific for the talon.

The trajectory graph should be pretty dang accurate for a talon with a 50 yard zero. The scope sits high on airforce guns, hence the -3.5 station of the pellet at 0 yards.

Never mind, it is working now. My bad… Duh!!!

Could not get your link to work. Final result, it was looking for something to upload.
