Tried something with the barrel bushings tonight.
Ive seen this discussed before, but I didnt remember what the result was so I thought I would try it.
My Condors first owner drilled and tapped a hole on the bottom rail 4″ ahead of the forward barrel bushings hole. So I added a third vented bushing at that location as a test.
All three slid in easily without binding, so no problem there. The new bushing still left plenty of room for my shroud adapter, no problem there.
Went out and shot the tightest 40 yard group this gun ever shot, .227 CTC for 5 shots. Next five went .310, and the last 5 went .290. POI did not shift at all, which is another first for this gun.
Before Ive been able to print an occasional .5 at this range, but normally a bit larger and always the POI would drift very slighly left or right.
I am hoping this was not a fluke. I ran out of light before I could shoot more. If POI doesnt move by the next session, Im gonna be impressed.

AirTramp, I am considering eliminating the center bushing to see if I get the same result.
I measured the bushings I have, and found three that were 1.009″ which slide down the frame almost vacuum tight.
I only used the bottom screw on the 3rd bushing, I didn’t want to drill and tap a hole in the side yet.
RiffRaff, this is very interesting. I have had my doubt about the value of free floating barrel for airguns because some shoot just as good with barrel band. Looking forward to the POI change follow-up and if it’s not too much to ask, can you try moving one bushing to the very end of the frame i.e. using the end cap set screw and see if there is any deterioration of group size?
In general, unless you can maintain tight tolerance, 3 point contact is a lot harder to keep straight and stress free. Good job.
PS if you can’t shoot without the shroud, never mind then. 😀

Ya, the two work just fine and it does help a bit with consistent accuracy when you spread them apart.
