Trigger group help?
Greetings all.
I have recently completed the suggested trigger group mods (adjustment screws/light file and polish) in hopes of getting things smoothed out.
I cannot get the gun to stay cocked however. It begins to engage and then slips out. IF I put additional pressure of the hammer sear when cocking it will stay cocked but ONLY if I do so. The current spring will not engage it.
I have polished and edged the middle sear engagement as well as deepen it a bit and I have polished and edged the hammer sear. I believe I’ve done this properly but am at a loss as to why it will only engage if I use additional pressure on the hammer sear. At this point the trigger adjustment part is not even in. I’ve taken them out to make it as stock as possible.
Does anyone have any idea where I can go from here? I’m at a loss as to what to do to fix this problem.

I had the same thing happen, and it turned out I had one of the pieces in the wrong position in relation to another one…Everything looked fine, but it behaved the same way…
The trigger group is a royal bitch, I found that out right away. Easily the toughest part of the gun to work on or otherwise mess with.
Go slow, figure it out before you take it apart.
As Rhoderman says, you now have a potential accident waiting to happen!!
Sounds like you rounded the sear too much. A stronger spring may indeed work, just don’t sit your rifle down too heavy once you are cocked…… 😯
For me, replacing the guilty trigger parts would be the only option. 🙂
Stretch your sear spring a bit.
If you changed any angles when you were polishing, you are probably looking at new trigger parts unless you can correct it. Rounding over the sear edge will screw up a trigger in a heartbeat.
More spring pressure might hide the problem enough to cause a bad accident when you least expect it. “I didn’t know it would go off by itself like that!”
Take pictures of your work if you can and post them. Hint: use the macro feature on your camera for a good focus.
Maybe try and find a different spring, stiffer one, and put it in there?
